You're going to be hearing a lot about Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain between now and its release on the 23rd. Everyone has been playing the demo since last week, and our review is up today. The game tries to do something different with the concept of video games; just check out this video for a look at how different it is:
Any game that features an asthma inhaler mini-game is not a typical experience, wouldn't you agree?
Heavy Rain's unique story-telling style and gameplay lead to a couple strong, pre-release reactions from gamers: Either "I must play this game! It's different from everything else I've played!" or "This game is different from everything else I've played! Why would I be interested in that?"
I am firmly in the "must-play" camp. What about you?

I'm more than willing to try something new, but a game of nothing but QTE's really doesn't seem like fun, even if the story is superb. I'm willing to check out the demo and be proven wrong.
But honestly, I realize that anytime something different comes along it becomes a critical darling almost by default, often long before it s ever actually released or even played from start to finish by said critics.
But that doesn t mean the average gamer can t look at a game like Heavy Rain and say, But I ve done something like that (QTE's) in other games and I didn t like it. How is this gameplay fun?

Very much in the 'Must support' camp. I don't have a Ps3 so I can't really play this title--but i feel like we need to support this as a new Genre of games. As a writer I LOVE the idea of getting to write a script for a game like this--the requirement of malleability that the script would have to posses is tantalizing. I'd love to see more games in the same vein as Heavy Rain--hopefully hitting the PC or, better yet--the Wii. Considering the Wii is perfectly designed for a game based around QTE's and storytelling, I'm truly eager to see an independent, and very much mature, title launch for the Nintendo console.

I don't know, turning everyday mundane things like brushing teeth into even more mundane things isn't really fun. I imagine later scenes are more adrenaline-powered, but I can't see buying this. I prefer games like Persona or Mass Effect were you can choose the story-flow.
And.......QTE's are a terrible excuse for gameplay. Still I have to give them that the story is somewhat interesting. And of course the graphics are some of the best.

I'm going to make sure I at least see someone else play it.

I have it preordered and paid off. i'm a little nervious about it though and hope it doesn't disappoint. If i'm completely honest my buying it might have as much do do with wanting to support the direction/concept (a vote for future development of the genre) as it is about me actually wanting this game. Maybe that's not a smart buying reason, but no...wait, the game looks awesome.
