Dante's Inferno was released this week. My review sparked some intense debate, especially from gamers with a deep love for God of War. If you want to go beyond the review, though, check out my discussion with Adam Sessler, where I had a chance to expand on some points in the review and reflect on what it's like to read through a very deep pool of heated (but welcomed!) commentary.

We were talking about the game in my European History class and I happen to be arguing with my teacher over it. First of all, alot of what was in the game wasn't what I pictured when we did a unit on Dante. I just did not think the main character in the this game was Dante at all. I just couldn't relate it to Dante and it's good you explained that it was based of the setting because nothing else screamed Dante to me. I admit though I'm only saying this out of playing the demo because when I played it I had no urge to go and buy the game. Another reason was the God of War factor. Everyone says that they have no problem with imitation but I do! I hate playing a game and thinking Oh my God it reminds me of this. I always say if your going to imitate you better be like a Bill Gates or a Steve jobs. Take the idea a whole level further to the point where it seems like it's an original. But I did tell some of my friends who have a 360. If you've never played God of War or have no idea what that is go and buy this game because you might like it, but for me, I will keep my money because I don't have the $60 to spend when God of war is coming out in a month.

so just finished the game its a great game i loved it a lot. Saying this though i agree with the score that it was given. It defiantly has its problems, and arena mode seems to be just thrown on as an after thought.

I think it would be cool if you guys gave scores in increments of 0.5, so maybe dante's inferno could have been more comfortably placed at 3.5 This would definitely give the reviewer some breathing room. Just my two cents!

Bought the game btw.. haven't gotten too much time with it as of yet, but I've liked what I've seen so far. I think it will be the setting that really keeps me interested.. far more that the combat or story maybe. DMC4 and Bayonetta definitely have one up on this game as far as actual gameplay in my opinion.. they just feel free-er and a little more open. Probably has osmething to do with the way the fixed camera feels to me.

I read many reviews of this game & they all said its good. I bought the game on tuesday passed it on thursday and Dante's Inferno is Crazy Great!!! I also bought The Divine Comedy when i saw a Hands on Preview where the Sess said we should read it before playing the game. Finished Inferno and its also Crazy Great, now im reading Purgatorio, and after that Paradiso. Gotta get ready for the next 2 games haha now im gonna go ahead and continue with my 2nd playthrough of Dante's Inferno...AWESOME GAME!!!

Great talk guys. I have the game and I would not give anymore than a 3 out of 5. As much as the beginning is really quite good the last half of the game is like an old re tread. for that and other reasons 3 is quite a generous score. IMHO

I don't think Dante's Inferno nor Dark Siders should have gotten the scores it got. From what I'm hearing these games are good maybe even better once you get really deep into the game. I would really love to play both to see if my opinion on these games are correct.

    @ Patrick Klepek
People have been misreading my comment on the review and now believe im some 360 fanboy. How can someone that enjoys the PS3 and 360 be considered a fanboy and make sure he or she isn't bagged on by others?

To be honest. I read and watch your reviews and dont worry about what you score it. Its your opnion and thats that. I just watch to see the specs and the lines of the games. To each his own dudes, drop it and buy it if it fits your taste. Period.

A good reviewer is honest, doesnt go with what the people would like to here, but the truth unedited. So do yo thang playa...(cheesy)

I highly recommend that you rent this game and don't buy it becuase it's too dam short. I bought the game and I feel rip off that I all ready pass in three days. Some people even pass it on the first day. They have a online multiplayer in april but still I wanted more Dante Inferno levels. Good game overall buy too short.

    @Patrick Klepek

Im playing through this game now and I have so many critisms against it I feel compelled to write my first ever review. You mention a couple of points in the video, things your liked/disliked, that I disagree with. Im not going to discuss those points here, however, there was one thing stuck out in my mind. How did you not know this game is meant to be played twice? The developers make it so painfully obvious that you choose a path of light or darkness first, and then follow up on the other path once the game is over. That was once of my biggest beefs about the game. From the moment I opened the upgrades menu, just the layout screamed "theres only enough time and souls to upgrade one half at a time", and to me thats a cheap gimick forcing your to play it over again.

Alls Im saying is how are we supposed to trust your review when you cant even figure something as basic as that out?

    Hi!

Longtime viewer - first time poster.

I have a PS2 & 360 so playing a GOWish game on 360 will be welcome. I did my undergraduate degree in English & Media so my only concern is how the devs treated the original source material!

Anyhoo - keep up the good work!

    Greetings from Ireland!

    Dave

What they SHOULD have done in the trailer was to add a phrase that said "From the creative team behind the God of War series..."--See, if they added that then people would have been more objective about Dante's Inferno and it having so much semblance to God of War franchise.-- Marketing people these days.

"if you can take the time to make the review than you can take the time to defend it."

It funny how more than half the people crying about the score cant event do this and it nice that Patrick took the time to respond, again i might add ,to all the people who hate the score.

All the crying about reviews it just sad, really people the only review people should care about is their own , stop acting like you have some personal stake here it only reviews -_-.
