Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

I seem to be the only person in the office who hasn't finished Mass Effect 2, which is why it's convenient that BioShock 2 has decided to be released the week after, totally screwing with my free time. That's a long way of saying: we're going to be talking about BioShock 2 on Feedback this week, so don't ask any questions about BioShock 2! We've got it covered. That said, if you want to be Feedback's question of the week, it's time to head to the comments.

Also, a reminder. You have a better chance of getting picked if you have an avatar!

With the Recent announcement from Microsoft about shutting down the original xbox live servers for quality, and improvement possibilities do you see more companies shutting down their online servers for the same reasons, and the life spam of online servers being cut down a lot shorter than we are used too?

the shutting down of the xbox servers really dose not bother me all that much because i got over xbox since the new generation was released and the shutting down of them actually improves what most of us are actually using, although I know that people are still using those servers for halo 2 but those people should know that their has been 100 different re-hatches of halo in the 360, the newest one called modern warfare.

With Heavy Rain coming out soon, what exactly do you think Sony's expectation is for this game sales wise? What are your expectations in general of the game and for how well you think the game will do? Sony seem to openly admit that this game is what they call a "innovative gamble".

Are more and more game reviewers becoming game critics?

Movie critics are always looking for the next "Gone With The Wind" or the next "Star Wars". Regular movie goers, while not wanting to watch a bad movie, many times just want to be entertained. Lately it seems that more and more game reviewers are so busy looking for the next epic Halo, GTA, God Of War, and Bioshock game that they are missing out on the games that are, well, just plan FUN TO PLAY. Next instead of reviewing a game on it's merits (good or bad) it's all about how a game is not the next Halo or God of War.

Critics have their place, but I'd prefer for reviews to be done by gamers who love playing games.

With the slew of releases coming in the first half of 2010 alone, do you guys at the feedback think that this year will be the greatest year for gaming critically?

This is a bit old news but here it goes. I play a lot of modern warfare and i've noticed a lot of the titles and pictures you can put up for yourself are all marijuana related. I've smoked weed a couple times but i really don't like how Infinity Ward is assuming that all gamers think its funny and that we are all marijuana smokers. Am i wrong?

Will Square-Enix ever revive/remake a full-scale Chrono Trigger console game??
(Preferably with FF13Versus 3D-Animation/Graphics, awesome voice acting, & updated battle system [less turn-based; more fluid like Mass Effect 2]??)

Sorry; I just really wanted to get this question out.
I fell in love with playing Chrono Trigger, and I would like for the game to be made into a full scale game like FF13Versus. (And for it to be available in the U.S., of course)
The DS remake didn't quite feel like it was enough to do the game justice.

Do you think that people are looking at EA's "Cerberus Network" the wrong way? Do you think it's actually a positive step for a company like EA?

I personally see it as EA's way of rewarding people for actually buying the game in a manner that provides EA and Bioware with a profit. By offering the players free content it seems like a very positive step for EA, who we all remember actually charged early Xbox 360 owners for content that was included for no cost on Xbox and PS2 version of titles (Tiger Woods courses.)

We have already received an additional party member, a small additional mission, and now (or should by the time your episode goes live) additional weapons and armor. This is stuff that EA has a reputation for nickel and diming us for.

Seems that people that are concerned about paying the full sticker price should just wait till the game reaches a price they are willing to pay. Honestly, players like that might be better off anyways as they will have full access to a lot more content from their first day of play.

I'm guessing you guys will be doing Feedback - Bioshock 2 Edition so here is my Bioshock slanted question. I have noticed a massive trend in videogames that came to me in an epiphany. We see an original title (i.e. Bioshock) then several years later release a sequel (i.e. Uncharted 2) that is say better than the original for the most games, not all. Will we ever see this gaming trend end in our lifetime?

Dante's Inferno is coming out and it bothers me deeply. Not because of the content, rather because of the design. The name selection, Dante's Inferno, and the game's aesthetic taken straight from God of War irritate me because of the borrowing of credibility from God of War and Dante's Divine Comdey. It's one thing, as in Darksiders, to nod to other game mechanics and incorporate them in a unique way; this is how the video game business has always been. It's another thing to borrow a well known name and to borrow a successful game structure (for better or for worse as pointed out in G4's review of Dante). The borrowing of credibility it wouldn't otherwise deserve bothers me but even more so it makes me worried for the literature itself. We've seen countless movie based games that go right in the toilet. However this is the first instance that a work of literature has been extrapolated for a game (even if it's admittedly an inspiration rather than a basis for the plot). I feel this will potentially damage the reputation of Dante's Divine Comedy and any other literature that could get the same treatment down the line. I think this wouldn't even be an issue at all if the game weren't named Dante's Inferno because as it is now it's a name suitable for advertising without showing an effort to bring a true work of literature to life as the title have one believe. I have no aim of summarizing this into a question so I'll just leave it at that. Am I blowing this out of proportion?

With Peter Molyneux's recent cryptic quote in regards to Fable III http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/p ost/702436/Big-Upsetting-Fable -III-Announcement-Coming-This- Week.html do you see Microsoft being willing to make one of their top tier games a Project Natal exclusive?

More over it would make a lot of sense for Microsoft to use the release of Project Natal as a mid-cycle rebirth of the 360. Could we be seeing a repackaged product coming from Microsoft later this year that sheds the memory of the RROD in the same way Sony used the PS3 Slim last year? And if so would Microsoft be willing to bet some of their key franchises on such a new and relatively unknown product?

Alright this is kind of a weird question but here it goes. Over the course of the last little while, I have noticed certain criticisms from non gamers when it comes to how much time a gamer does spend on a video game. It always come across to me, these non gamers don't consider gaming a form of healthy entertainment along the lines of other things people may enjoy, for example: reading. Now I am not against reading, as I do enjoy doing that during my weeks as well...I just don't put one above the other. To me, it is all the same....an enjoyable way to spend free time.

My question is, why do you guys think non gamers have such a non open attitude towards games in general? Is their a specific reason why games get singled out for this? I constantly get the question from non gamers, what do you gain from playing video games? I can never really find an answer, so I was hoping you at Feedback could help me with that. What do you think we as gamers "gain" when playing our games?

Have any of you played the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo or beta? if so, do you have any first impressions on it? Also, because this has been a heated argument between fans, do you think it could compete against Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?

Is there any chance that Natural Selection 2 will be released on consoles? Or will it remain PC exclusive? Respond.

with news from EA that we should be expecting something new from dragon age and mass effect soon, and how EAs and valve experiment with left4dead2 was a success (3 million and counting)..... how do u feel about sequels coming too fast after the "original" game was release? do we really want our "non-traditional" games follow the yearly sport games model (the call of duty franchise being a example of this new trend)?

    Hey everyone at The Feedback,
What do you guys think is the next step in video game innovations? With both sony and microsoft coming out with brand new motion tech, do you think that motion sensing technology will continue to be the future of games until we have holodecks like on star trek that fully immerse you into the game or do you think something new will take its place?

Love the show and keep up the good work,

I've had a few instances where I'd be playing a great game but I wasn't enjoying it like I should. I'd play the game for a few hours and while I was having some fun, I wasn't having the experience that I wanted. After a few more hours of play, I'd restart the game and give it another chance. With in 30 minutes of starting the game I would begin to become the amazing experience that I was expecting in the first place. I think these couple of instances happened because I wasn't used to some of the new aspects of the game. One example includes getting used to the different controls in Mass Effect 2 instead of feeling like a bad ass. Another example is trying to get used to a new stealth(ish) mechanic in Uncharted 2.

My question is have you guys ever restarted a game so that you can have a better experience?

I was very disheartened when Six Days in Fallujah was dropped because I've always loved games where it's story before action. I'm very excited for Heavy Rain and I was wondering if you think more games with de-emphasized combat are in the horizon.

So I've been waiting for heavy rain and it's 2 weeks away now, I've watched the videos and played the demo. I've watched the videos and there is one scene that is kinda...gta like, don't know if you've had a chance to see it. I won't spoil it for those that don't know. Do you think once the game is released and someone sees this scene that heavy rain might get some unwanted publicity or will it be viewed as just a normal thing now?

Considering MS published the first one and without it a port isn't possible, Do you think Ps3 owners should get their hopes up for a ME 2 port?

Do you think that EA's "Cerberus Network" mechanism is the wave of the future or do you think that gamers will reject the model? Wouldn't this model be the equivalent of selling your used car without the passenger seat, rear-view mirror and spare tire only to have Toyota (or other car manufacturer) sell those things to the buyer separately?
