Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

I seem to be the only person in the office who hasn't finished Mass Effect 2, which is why it's convenient that BioShock 2 has decided to be released the week after, totally screwing with my free time. That's a long way of saying: we're going to be talking about BioShock 2 on Feedback this week, so don't ask any questions about BioShock 2! We've got it covered. That said, if you want to be Feedback's question of the week, it's time to head to the comments.

Also, a reminder. You have a better chance of getting picked if you have an avatar!

Do you see battlefield and modern warfare going the way of mag soon adding more players to the fold? Or do you think adding more is to much even if they fix the boggs.

After playing around with Bioshock 2 for a while, I am finally beginning to grasp the concept of the left mouse button controlling the weapon on the right side of the screen, while the plasmid is controlled with the right mouse button. Such a little thing, yet it has wreaked havoc on my mental stability, is this what left handed gamers have been going through since the inception of the FPS?

Every gamer holds a certain measure of nostalgia for the games of his/her childhood and, at times, it's great to revisit these older titles.

That being said, with more emphasis being placed on digital distribution methods do you guys think Sony, for example, will release their catalogue of PS2 games on the PSN? One would think they'd make a pretty penny on the games, and fans would be more than contented. I know there were rumblings of this before, but do you think it's likely?

Or will more companies, across platforms, milk their classics/appease fans with God of War-esque collections? It would be great to see a Team Ico collection, for example, before Last Guardian's release, be it tangible or digital.

The Apple iPad news is out and now Sony has announced their desire to be in the tablet market. What are your thoughts on this being Sony's eventual replacement of the PSP? PSPgo 2.0 maybe?? Considering the tablet would most like have integrated bluetooth it would only make sense to have the ability to use PS3 controllers with it as well as touch screen. My portable gaming would definitely be redefined if I could use a normal full sized dual shock controller, hopefully someday there will be an app for that, haha.

I have been feeling a bit nostalgic lately and found myself replaying my old PS1 games. One in particular was Legend of the Dragoon. Although playing it now after having played games for my PS3 it is obvious to see how dated it really is with the cheesy dialog and poor graphics compared to today's games. I'm wondering if a) you ever played this game and b) what is the one old game that if you play now reminds you why you love playing video games?

Is it just me or has Downloadable Content (DLC) become somewhat of a fad. I mean, it seems that it's becoming more of a marketing scheme than actual product enhancement. The reason I say this is because most publishers promise DLC before games even come out, and then are released relatively short after the actual game comes out. To me it sounds like they could simply include it in most games original disc, but they want to add a bit of future nostalgia/profit for longevity reasons. What do you guys think? Do you think it's worth waiting for DLC or do you think they could simply include it into the original releases?

With so many games coming out in the opening months of 2010 and with some of them (Mass Effect 2 for example) selling extremely well do you predict that company's will start releasing AAA games in a more spread out fashion throughout the years to come or is this a one time thing thanks to Modern Warfare 2 scaring out the competition?

Sorry, I didn't find this out till moments ago, but Barry Burton and Rebbecca Chambers have been confirmed as the last 2 mercenaries reunion characters. It shows pictures in a Japanese magazine, I saw it on Resident Evil wikia. They are wearing their original costumes from RE:1.

After reading the diatribe from Adam, and the newly posted video from Patrick defending his review for Dante's Inferno, I can't help but think that the simplest way to decrease such attacks would be to simply change the scoring system from 5 out of 5 to 10 out of 10. A 20 percent difference between each point seems like too far a stretch. A 3 out of 5 is still considered 60 percent and I don't know about you, but to me, that's still failing... If Patrick was able to give the game a 7 out of 10, I think it would have been more accurately representative of the review. I realize changing anything these days brings its own share of hateful comments "Greedy McNasty Fear change!! RAAHH!!", but I think it might be time to change to a score system with a little less degree between each point...., Your Thoughts Please.... P.S. BonerJam Rulz!!

I have a two part question:

    1. The trend of blending gaming genres seems to be a very large success, both financially and critically. Do you think this success is actually based around the genre blending, or is it because the games that are capitalizing on this already have appeal, whether due to being part of a franchise or placed in an already popular setting?

    2. Do you feel that this "blend-trend" will continue to the point where the majority of games will be amalgams of different playstyles and the genre specific games become niche-focused and a minority?

I'm an aspiring rapper/producer trying to find ways to get my music out to the public. I know that the Rockband Network is supposed to help indie bands get their music out to gamers but I'm not sure if this is the right tool for me. I wanted to know if there will be other ways to spread music through Xbox Live/PSN coming any time soon.

What I would like to ask what your view on next month's releases? Personally I would like to get Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Resident Evil 5: Gold edition. I loved the BBC2 demo and have always liked Re:5 despite some bad reviews. I definitely don't judge whoever reviewed the game on the show (if I was correct it was Adam). He ( or she if I'm wrong) had very good reasons that could be backed up with evidence. Also, since I'm on the subject of RE, what is your views on Gold edition?

I have been incredibly impressed by Bioware's ability to construct and release all this new DLC for both their new games, Dragon Age, and ME2. Do you think that they are living up to their promise to give "long term support" to both of these games, and do you think that the addition of support through extra content is going to be a game breaker for upcoming titles, particularly in RPGs?

Were is Duke Nukem Forever? JUST KIDDING! I wouldn't waste a question of the week on that! Yet, how do you feel the newest version of Japan's slavery causing hit Monster Hunter will do in the American market? I've been an over-loving fan of the game since the original on the PS2; it too had an online feature almost identical to that of the new console version for Wii, which makes me scratch my head as to why reviewers and journalist claim it is new to the series for it is not new at all, but back to my point. Personally i will be buying a Wii and the ccpro bundle of the latest version along with starting a live podcast on launch. I know the game itself maybe abstract to most, yet hear me out. Monster Hunter isn't a game with an epic ending. Infact there really is no proper ending to any of the games. For its not about that at all where the beauty of the game lies as with most epic media is not the destination, but the journey. It truly is about the online play, the people you meet, the bonds you forge, and the crazy things that happen to you along the way. There is just something about sitting at the tavern after a long day of hunting, getting your avatar drunk, sharing crazy stories or reflecting on ones that happend, and arm wrestling your hunter friends on a keg and watching them fly and roll away when you finally beat them. Its one of those few games where who you are as a person and a player stand way above any twinked out gear you might have. With that being said if any of the g4 team plan to be in game you'll always have one switchaxe at your side, mine. look for me in game under torangi in this next run through a beastly world called Monster Hunter Tri.

With the news of AC getting multipayer in the next installment, I can't but help being hesitant. For the majority of my life I have played video games in solitude and I have found I rather like it that way. I would rather not play a video game if it has multiplayer because the other people are messing up my experience, whether it be team killing or lagging I would rather avoid it all together. I would much rather them spend there time on creating new and inventive missions for me alone than worry about a multiplayer component that may or may not work. I have come to love playing on my own and experiencing everything fresh. I would rather know I messed up that know my buddy cannot make a jump to unlock my next part of the mission to save his life. Can you please explain the obsession of companies to include multiplayer even in a tested and true formula such as Assassins Creed? I really would rather avoid trusting that my buddy will distract the guards while I sneak in for the kill.

After watching the Heavy Rain Demo gameplay, I remembered you guys talking about the developer hoping that people would only play through the game once in order not to destroy the experience of playing through it again because elements would be spoiled or something like that. Do you guys think games should be like that? Have a singular experience be so profound which it be deserving of only being played through once so that people won't compete for the perfect game? If so, should a person pay differently for that kind of game because of the encouraged lack of replayablity?

After reading the review for Dante's Inferno, and learning that the game has several glitches, I couldn't help wonder if the game hadn't been rushed to release before God of War 3, would the game been significantly better or recieve a better score? I haven't played the game so I can't judge it by any means, and agree with all the points brought on by Patrick, but I do love this genre, so I will eventually pick it up. If GOW 3, was scheduled to release later during the year vice versa, I think this game would have ended up being more polished in my opinion. That way people not might compare this game to GOW 3 as much as it is now, since it is about a month away. Not to mention since I am a college student and only have the time and money to spare on 1 game this time of year, I'll be going with God of War 3.

Playing a game like the original Bioshock was excellent, even on a second run-through, because of the immersion in the world. Though there are many factors to this, I attribute much of it to the linearity of the story and the focus of choice in the game being left to one major situation: what to do with the little sisters.
Should game developers take something from this and begin to tone back the choice aspect of games? Instead, should they limit it to a specific choice that is representative of the conflict throughout the game? Does storytelling suffer with too much choice? Are we predisposed to enjoy the games writers sending us down a linear path alike to what one encounters in a novel or movie? Of course, there is room for both types of games, but which game is the more compelling storyteller: experimenting by placing self into a story where choice is key OR empathizing in the shoes of another in the linear story to undergo their experience?

When a game is successful, the next coarse of action is to pump out a sequel. More often than not, the sequel has many of the same elements from the first but tacked on various new things and a new story line. By the time the third game rolls out there is little to improve upon and boredom sets in. (If it's not broken, why fix it.) Do you guys feel that many franchises suffer this ill fate (like Pokemon) or should developers approach the sequel in a different direction to freshen the experience instead of milking the game for what it's worth?
