After the launch of Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2, you'd think BioWare would be quiet for a little while. But according to comments from Electronic Arts COO John Schappert, there is "something far-reaching from Mass Effect" coming between January 1 and March 31, 2011.
Schapper's comments came during a discussion of EA's latest financial results and he provided no other details during the conference call. Is it Mass Effect 3 already? Is it an expansion pack?
In an earlier press release, EA listed an unnamed Dragon Age title coming to consoles, handhelds and PC during the same period. Schappert did not mention the Dragon Age title during the conference call. It's possible Schappert meant to reference Dragon Age, but accidentally said Mass Effect.
I've contacted EA for clarification. Stay tuned.

my guess is mass effect on the ps3. he said something far reaching for MASS EFFECT. not necissarily mass effect 2. mass effect the franchise. and since microsoft didnt publish mass effect like they did their other exclusive titles, its just a contract deal that bioware made with microsoft that is gonna run out soon. playstation 3 here we come!

Just because I suggest that ME franchise could be ported to PS3 doesnt mean I advocate or condone the possibility. Im just attempting to interpret/rationalize what was said during an EA Conference call/FINANCIAL Earnings report. Again, my comment is in no way a product of fanboyism, as I own both major consoles, as any real gamer would... but some of you need to start thinking outside of the box, pun intended.

So we're talking about 1 year after the release date? Sounds like they are going to announce the PS3 version to me. Maybe they'll do both games on 1 disc.

As a new game (a number 3) seems a stretch time-wise and an expansion might not be ground-breaking enough, I could envision Mass Effect doing something similar to Halo Waypoint. There is already interconnections between the first and second game, so why not have some sort of multiple progress tracker. You can see the decisions made by your different characters, and compare their stats, even compare your stats to friends. Making it also a hub for back-story and parallel products (like novels, comics, and soundtracks, etc) this could be huge for the staying power of this franchise. As well, it could help it to span outwards with new products and content.
Though I doubt this is the announcement, I do hope it might be something like this.

Reason being that they are making a KOTOR MMO
Mass Effect has the potential to do this, think of armies of various races stopping the reapers+geth.
If so i call being a Quarian so i can have a sweet suit on at all times.

when i read "something far-reaching from mass effect" i think of a new game entirely. my reasoning behind this is that it states something far-reaching FROM mass effect, which i take as indication of something that is not necessarily related to the ME franchise.

if they're planning an expansion next year. I want to import a character from mass effect 2 to an expansion. I'm looking forward to mass effect 3 in 2012 or 2013.

Nowadays, there is no excuse not to have all 3 consoles (price drops people...price drops are here) so there should be no more console wars and no reason why everyone can't enjoy every game and comment about them together like civilized human beings instead of bitching about who's console is better and who's console has the better games and who's dad can beat up who's dad and whatnot. Gamers are slowly transforming into Lamers imo! :P

Far-reaching than mass effect...well that sounds like an entirely new game that's FAR out there, then the universe that ME has..or it could be Star Wars. I highly doubt it's an announcement for PS3. I own a PS3 (had a 360) and don't really care if ME2 or even the ME franchise comes to PS3 (I love having a computer). But this sounds more like a brand new game rather than a ME announcement...

I'd take an expansion. I agree with DrowNoble though, I definately don't want them rushing ME3. Otherwise, an expansion would be amazing. I just want more story and missions to beef up my adept.

Please do NOT rush Mass Effect 3 just to satisfy EA's craving for more money. Take as much time as you need Bioware to polish the end of the trilogy to a nice shine. :)
I expect that ME3 will probably be mid to late 2011. After all, ME2 took about 2 years to develop. Since ME3 is the end, meaning no need to worry about storylines continuing, they can wrap things up quicker one would think. Bioware did say back in december '09 that they were already working on ME3.

My money is on DLC, Might get to play as the Protheans or something like that. Doubt we will see ME on PS3 anytime soon or ever.

I'd like to a Dragon Age or Mass Effect on PSP, but I wn't hold my breath on that though. Remember when Oblivion was supposed to be on PSP but that was cancelled? Either way, I'm looking forward to what Bioware has to offer.

Xbox 360 has Mass Effect 1,2, and soon 3. PS3 has Uncharted 1,2, and probably 3. Xbox 360 has Halo 1,2,3 , Odst, Halo Wars and soon will have Halo Reach. PS3 has God or war 1,2,3. See the pattern hear, each console has its name sake titles and that is that. Yes there are multi console titles to make things all fair but some titles will never be passed around. well unless you want to name FF13 going over to 360, a bit of a cheating who - - . It also bee like having Mario on PS3 and 360. not going to happen.

The only thing "far-reaching" could really mean, if you think about it, is making the game go multi-platform. I'm probably going to get thumbs down for making a statement that makes sense. Think about it.....far-REACHing...they want the game to reach as many people as they want right? More availability, means bigger sales. And if it does go multi-platform, the only person you can blame is Microsoft for not dishing out the right amount of cash.

It honestly doesn't surprise me if they'd have expansions like GTA 4. I loved ME2, but it seemed like it came to end too quickly (story wise). I'd love to have more story without having to wait for ME3.

For the people saying it better be released on PS3... Why? Wouldnt you want Mass Effect 1 to be released first so you can experience that first since ME2 continues the story from your game save? I just dont understand why Mass Effect 2 would be released on the PS3 and not ME1
