The Super Bowl Half-Time Show is always a big to do. And while I haven’t been asked back as a performer for a number of years now (Don’t ask!), I still find the whole spectacle rather fascinating. Now, normally the break period of a sporting event isn’t the kind of thing you bring up on a gaming site, but this year’s show features something specifically game related.
As you may have heard, legendary rockers The Who will be performing at this year’s Super Bowl, and to mark the occasion, Rock Band fans will be able to download a specially recorded version of the performance following the big game. “The Who Super Bowl S-mashup” will cost $1.99, and, presumably, include bits and pieces from the band’s impressive catalogue.
Of course, most of their best songs have already appeared in Rock Band in master recording form. So I guess the question is: why would I want to play a compilation of abridged 2010 versions of Who songs when I could play master recordings of entire songs?
Answers please.

I am a hockey and basketball fan, but football it just so boring to me. Football always takes to long, and then it always interrupts one of favorite shows. Which is the Simpsons. Plus all do is focus on the game, they never focus on anything else. They show what the fans are doing, and they mostly don't show any cheerleaders. Has usual I will not be watching the Superbowl. So I check out the download later when it comes up after the Superbowl.

A compilation is good for people who are not HUGE fans of bands, but know and like parts of the famous songs. Maybe someone knows the popular parts of The Beatles songs, but bought The Beatles Rock Band only to find out that Within You Without You totally freaked them and out and bored the hell out of their wife...
I like The Who, but maybe I just want to play through the most memorable parts of their career when I have 10 friends over and they want to hear the good stuff and move on. It makes me think of when I come to Rush's Moving Pictures on my song list, and scroll through to let everyone hear the previews, but think, some of these songs are super long and I wish we could just play these previews so everyone can get a good idea of what Rush is about and eventually come to appreciate them the way I do.
Do we really need another reprise and repeat of the outro on Piece of Mind?... "I thought it was over!"

I'm just disspointed that the NFL is so behind in the times every year at superbowl time they have to go get a band who consist of nothing but people of the age of 40 and over.

The Who is classic!! I would rather old bands than some of the newer bands.

@bbonds756 they pick oldies cause they actually play music unlike the crap people make today.

The Who might be old, but they still fully rock.

the pick the old times (springsteen, rolling stones, tom petty) because they are a safe bet on live tv. blame the janet jackson wardrobe malfunction on that.

I always hated Roger Goodell's picks for the Super Bowl halftime. Why does he always pick these old timers? I think the majority would rather hear from somebody with music from this century - . -

I'm a huge Who fan, but I'm trying to figure that out too. I've always favored full master recordings over live songs, and a medley is at the bottom of the list. The Who have so many great songs, and we've only seen a small fraction of them. But it is only 2 bucks, and maybe their set will change my opinion.
Regardless, I'm still insanely psyched about halftime though.
