So what do you name your dudes? Like when you're playing an RPG, and you get the option of picking a moniker, do you try to hew closely to the "intention" of the game designers, or do you go with "AssFace McGhee?"
I usually try to pick a benign, middle-of-the-road name. I feel like a tool trying to craft the "perfect" name... ("Should I call my Dwarf 'T'orin Ackmodius?' Wait, does that fit with the naming conventions of the world?") but I find the juvenile fun of naming my character something filthy wears off quickly.
I usually just go with "Doug."

When I was younger, I used to just use my name... then I started using names that would fit w/ what I'm doing... now I just use any name that comes to mind... recent names... ballsac, horgarsh, reynolds, chinnuts, horatio, garganutua

I used to take time to name charachters, but now they only get names like Archer003 or Thief001.

I usually use Star Wars EU names. Vyyk Draygo, Bria Tharen, Kyp Durron, Sava Brec-Madok, and the like. But for Rockband, it is definetly The Sultans of Swing!

For some reason ive always used this name Hamsterkiller or hamsterkilla for my online games and even rpgs. Ive always thought it was funny when they would mention my name in a sentence about helping people or saving the world.

I usually use Tim because it's my real name. There are also some games where I always use the same names for other characters (Shining Force 2: I name the turtle Tortsie, Chrono Trigger I name Luca Tweak and Robo becomes Cable)

I usually go with one of the many Greek or Norse gods or combinations thereof. Other times, I go with Drow names. Of course it all depends on the nature of the game.

I usually use variations of my name (Derek) appropriately, like in DA:O, it's 'Darik', in Mass Effect, it was 'Dek'.
In Borderlands, I named my Roland 'Space Louis', because whenever he makes a quip, it reminds me of Louis from L4D. And...y'know..it's in space.

Sometimes I just use my name or Wozman23, but most of the time I go for something stupid. I was Rolando and Brickolas in Borderlands. And my band in Rock Band is Drumz McGee and the Clones (due to the fact that all four bandmates look like me). Lego Rock Band got a slight variation with Drumz McGee and the Mega Bloks.
My all-time favorite for character manipulation goes back to the days of Tony Hawk and the game of Horse you could rename, which I called Horsepenis. It extended the game and added insult to injury once you lost.

Since I play through games multiple times I usually use Greek letters to remember their order. Occasionally if my character looks like someone in particular I'll use their mane.

Zelda games are always "Link". Most everything else like RPG's and such is "Fenriz". The characters in Borderlands are so ridiculous though that I went with John Cena and Hotdog (Soldier and Berserker respectively).
