In a few short hours, all of those speculations and predictions about what Apple plans to unveil at its big showcase today will be put to rest. While we wait though, I figured this would be a good time to see how you all feel about the prospect of gaming on Apple’s rumored tablet device. Assuming it functions like a giant iPhone, games will most likely be presented in a similar way, only…you know..bigger.
Forget all of the more practical functions of such a device. Do you think it can have the same kind of impact on gaming as the iPhone has had? The tablet is obviously nowhere near as “mobile” as the iPhone or iPod Touch, but it’s expected to sport more powerful tech than the smaller devices, giving it much more potential in terms of offering more complex gaming experiences.
And they’re off!
Also be sure to tune in at 7pm Eastern to see Attack of the Show's expert analysis of the Apple unveiling!

I'm looking forward to gaming on the tablet. The worst part about gaming on your iPhone is the well known problem of your fat thumbs getting in the way. With a higher resolution and bigger screen, I think that problem will be greatly reduced.
Here's to hoping!

Speaking as an iPhone owner and developer I think there's potential for the tablet but there are some hurdles compared to gaming on the iPhone. One of the reasons the iPhone is such a great mobile platform is that it's about the size of a standard controller. This means that the on-screen controls for iPhone games (if done well) feel comfortable and work well.
The tablet obviously is much bigger, boasting probably a 10" screen. Even if the edges of the screen are flush with the edges of the device, it may be awkward using the on-screen controls while the device is being held in the player's hands.
It may be that the only comfortable way to game on the tablet is to place it on a desk in front of you, and use the controls using your fingers on both hands that way. I can see this working well for things like Chess or Solitaire, maybe even dungeon hack games, where the player is interacting with objects all over the screen.
But for games that require more conventional style contols (i.e. platformers, racing games) having the device laying on the table in front of you and leaning over it to use the contols on the screen may be significantly less comfortable, and less fun than using the iPhone like a controller, let alone using a standard gaming system.
