A friend pointed this out to me..
Simply that the PC is the test ground for new technology & software (most of the time) and then it eventually rolls over onto the consoles. And because of these console players are always YEARS behind of what pc gamers can do.
One main thing he pointed out is pc's have been using dedicated servers since 1998 and consoles have just started using them.
is it true consoles are always SO BEHIND.

so i just got done watching this episode of the feedback i cant understand why every one keeps saying halo reach has to answer to call of duty. in my opinion they're to completely different genre of shooters both great in there own right, but reach does not need to have a class system your a damn spartan super soldier! the fact is the halo franchise refined the area shooter to near perfection with great physics and thats what people should be creaming over, how great the new physics in reach will be. call of duty is a great tactical style shooter and if i want to to aim down some iron sites 75 times before i get a red dot ill play it, but i play halo to brute shot jump a mongoose over a guy with a missile pod or smash a guys face in with a grav hammer... halo 3 is still so widely loved on xbox live because its not like call of duty. the simple fact is there have been 2 modern warfare games out sense halo 3 and people still go back to halo 3 other companies have cloned the call of duty style but no one wants to rip off halo, and bungie knows that there fans love what halo is dont fix it if its not broke

I am a big fan of mass effect and will be getting the new one soon but while online I noticed there is a great lack in the amount of MAG reviews why is that.

Mass Effect 2 is an excellent game. It should easily sell millions, but how heavily do you think this will effect other game's sales? It's not as much of a hard-hitter as MW2 but I could see it affecting sales of Dante's Inferno and Bioshock 2.

My last post was an accident...hit the enter bar on accident.
Have any of you other than Adam had dreams involving dialog trees? If so did you notice them during or after the dream?
The name was meant to be a name for a Goa'uld character for SGW.

If my other question actually posted, then I am sorry, for some reason I can't see it XD.
The name is a Goa'uld name for SGW. Anyway,

Before you ask, the name was created for a Goa'uld character for Stargate Worlds, so it's supposed to sound weird XD.
I'm wondering do you see Natal being used as a stepping stone to the undoubtedly far off virtual reality-like videogames?
As a side note....I had a dream about conversation trees two...XD.
Haven't played ME2 yet- I deleted my old saves thinking I was going to actually finish a second playthrough...then AC 1 came out....

I wanted to comment on the linearity discussion last week with a quote that I think sums it all up quite nicely. "A game is only linear if it's obvious." -me :D
Now for the question......With so many young people, like myself, growing up on video games and wanting to make a career from their love of games, what do you think is the best way to do so? Many people like myself love video games but aren't creative enough to design them, what degrees should we go after? What are good schools to go to? Better yet, what do we need to work at a place like G4?

How do you think the iPad will affect the gaming industry? Do you think that developers and publishers will start to spend more time and money on creating games for this type of device, or is there a possibility that consumers will show very little interest in tablet computing (like in the past), pulling developers and publishers away and essentially killing the product?

With Mass Effect 2 demonstrating that role playing can be enjoyed in a game while also having superb action and shooter elements, do you think other games should entertain the idea of adding a strong dialogue or role playing element?
A perfect example would be MAFIA based games. The true appeal to any good Mob story is the characters and how they interact with each other, not so much running around and shooting up the town like an amateur thug.
Movies like The Godfather, Goodfella's and Donnie Brasco strengths are based around good dialogue, which has not translated well to MAFIA games.
I would love to be able to choose between telling someone to "go get their shine box" or to "quit busting my balls." Then decide if I am going to whack a guy just for looking at me the wrong way.

When purchasing Mass Effect 2 this week the EB Games rep asked (as they typically do, the pushers) if I wanted to reserve any other games. I placed a deposit on Splinter Cell Conviction because, well, the revamped Sam Fisher experience looks awesome! As appears to have become standard, the rep indicated the deposit comes with a downloadable weapon. In this case, it's the silenced shotgun. This is a trend I've seen within the last 6 months or so where games are now offering small downloadable elements if you pre-order. I understand the idea - give some incentive to confirm your purchase and buy early. But a couple questions come to mind:
1. Since the bonuses appear to be such small things, like a weapon or piece of armor, do you think it is really impacting the sales at all? My feeling is: 1) if a game is good, like Mass Effect 2, then there won't be any problems selling units, 2) if a game is bad, the extra item would be like really nice sourdough bread for your turd sandwich, and 3) Regardless of whether the game is good or not, most fanbooys/fangirls of a given game would be pre-ordering anyway. So do you think it really affects how many units sell.
2. What do you think the possibility is of achievements or trophies allowing merging with unlockables. Back in the day, doing big things in a game or finding all of one thing would simply unlock an item or a piece of concept art. With the advent of achievements and trophies, it seems games have gotten away from that and we cattle are content with that little bleep-bloop we get when the achievement is unlocked. I'd love to see them merge the two and maybe have something similar to what Assassin's Creed 2 did with the feathers. You get an achievement but it also unlocks the Auditore cape. Any thoughts?

As society accepts more violence and sex in video games, do you feel that there will ever be "A" rated games released to consoles? Or do you believe that the ESRB will expand the definition of the "M" rating so they'll always have a category that they can point to and say at least we're not doing that? Also, how is the Mako in ME2?

I'm a big fan of God of War, Devil May Cry, Twilight Princess, Ninja Gaiden, Oblivion, and basically anything with a sword/bladed weapon and RPG elements. Dante's Inferno looks like the next big blockbuster for this genera. I only see one thing wrong with it. They appear to have done a wonderful job rewriting Inferno into this genera, and having read Purgatorio, that could be easily twisted to the designers will, but I'm 4/5ths of the way though Paridiso, and frankly, that might just be impossible. It would be like making a Lord of the Rings Puzzle Game based on Metios. Do you guys have any thoughts?

There are 3 fundamental truths: Dragons are awesome, jets are awesome, jetPACKS are awesome. Why is it then that no one can seem to make a truly awesome game that revolves around flying?
With the release of Dark Void, most reviews will come with the statement "when your in the air, things are awesome, but otherwise they're not". Lair was considered a flop, and franchises such as Nintendo's Star Fox, the last Star Wars Rogue Squadron title for GC and Warhawk broke up flight with on foot and vehicular segments.
Are developers incapapble of crafting an excellent experience around flying, or is it that there just isn't enough variety in a flight environment to fill a full title?

Although it is necessary to compare video games with others to see how they fair, do you think it is fair to have a game being compared to many different games because it has similar elements.

Adam brought this up in his Soapbox. Has anyone played a game so much the dreamed they had powers from the game, were in the game, or were just the character?

What impact (if any) do you think Heavy Rain will have on games? Why/Why not?

So with the recent release of No More Heroes 2, it made me think of an aspect of gaming that doesn't get that much attention. Humor. Not to say it isn't considered when playing a game. But it's usually never a reason that you go and play a game. How often do you hear someone say "You should play this game! It's hilarious!"? Only a couple games really strike me as that type of game; No More Heroes, Conker's Bad Fur Day, and maybe Brutal Legends(which I haven't played.) Unless you'd like for me to go way back to the various point and click adventures that definitely had a great sense of humor. I'll just throw out Discworld for anyone that's a Terry Pratchet fan.Anyways my question is how do you feel humor effects video games? Do you feel its feel its been implemented well? Has it improved or gotten worse over the years? And what else do you think could be done with it?

It sounds like everyone loves playing as a Vanguard in Mass Effect 2. Perhaps brawling in a shooter is what we want? That extra sense of awesome where you are not always ducking behind cover all the time but really jumping headfirst into the action.
