Tetris Becomes Best-Selling Mobile Game Of All TimeWhen it comes to addicting games about arranging falling blocks created by Russian mathematicians in the mid-1980s, Tetris easily ranks among the best. It’s appeared on practically every console and platform imaginable, and over the past few years it has become one of the most popular mobile phone games around…Actually, I take that back. It has become THE MOST popular mobile phone game of all time. Slight difference.

The game’s rights holder, Blue Planet Software, and EA Mobile made the announcement today, revealing that the mobile version of the game has surpassed 100 million paid downloads since 2005.

“After Tetris’ success with the Game Boy in 1989, we always hoped that potential would carry over into today’s mobile devices. It’s a testament to the game’s staying power that it remains popular on today’s most modern technology,” Blue Planet CEO Henk Rogers said in a statement.

(Side note: My girlfriend happens to be an unbelievable Tetris player. Seriously. She’d kill you without thinking twice. Tetris is also the only mobile game she’s ever bought, and she’s bought it anew with each new phone. She’s hardcore.)

How many of you have purchase a mobile version of Tetris at some point? How many of you are playing it right now?

No duh, it's old so everyone knows it, and everyone knows how to play it. Let me guess number 2 in pacman/miss. pacman.

I've got it for the original Game Boy, so no need to buy a mobile version.

P.S. Firing the old Game Boy up and blasting through Super Mario Land in half an hour is still amazingly good fun.

I bought it about two years ago for my phone, but at&t screwed me over with that one, charging me close to $100 in 'download fees' for Tetris and four ringtones (that were 15 seconds each)! I fought the charges, they agreed to withdraw them, but not without taking away ALL internet capabilities. At the time, I didn't really care because they let me keep Tetris, and I don't have a smartphone, so the online capabilities weren't so great anyway. But then my phone broke, I had to pay $50 to replace it, and THEY TOOK AWAY TETRIS! I was officially pissed, but I got over it, I just played my PSP a whole lot more...

I highly doubt that, Dr. Gaskill. I mean, c'mon; Do you really expect me to believe that you have a girlfriend?

P.S.- Sorry, man, I couldn't resist. You just set it up so perfectly.

That side note shows why it's gotten to 100M. I wonder how much Alexey Pajitnov is seeing in royalties?
