I think I've finally flushed out the remnants of the chocolate chip grilled cheese from last week (did anybody else try it?), and I'm ready to take on more mail. I'm up for experimenting with wild recipes, just as long as they sound edible and potentially amazing. And if you guys behave, I might share my family's famous Beer Cheese Soup. Might.
Oh! Also! The Reply to All mailbag is moving to Saturday mornings starting this week, which gives me further opportunity to write about cereal and cartoons.
This week's conversation kindling:
- How's your "game memory?" I've been thinking about this lately in prep for Mass Effect 2...my memory is pretty shoddy in general, so I frequently need reminders of what happened in previous episodes/installments/20 minutes ago (hence the Lost re-watch). I may have to start scheduling in regular revisits of games prior to the sequel, which of course takes up time that could be spent playing new stuff (or watching/reading/listening to new stuff). You?
- The Apple Tablet approacheth, with raised expectations for it as a gaming device. Any interest in this? What would be your magic price point? What kinds of games do you think would work best for a multi-touch surface interface?
- If you had to pick between New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Galaxy (essentially, 2D vs. 3D) from now until eternity, what would you go with?
- This week I made it through my Lost re-watch up to beginning of season 4. I miss Mikhail. What's the most pressing question you want answered by the end of the show? Spoilers are in play, obviously.
- Best Price is Right game: Plinko or Cliff Hangers?

Plinko is awesome because it reminds me of Pachinko and I love japanese games...so there; Plinko wins.
Mario 2D will always reign supreme because of it's accessability. But if I had to play it for all eternity, I just want to make sure there are a lot of hidden items. Like the hidden flutes and hidden bonus passageways from Super Mario Bros 3, those were good. Eternity is a lot of time so I don't want to get bored.
And game memory, I was gonna talk about that but I forgot what I was going to say. I guess it's okay??

Plinko is the best because it can bring out both my light & dark side because I root for them in the beginning so they can get all the discs and then I root for them to get all zeroes! Or is that all dark? >_>

My gaming memory is pretty good and I usually go online and check wikipedia to refresh my memory of the story so far for any sequel i plan on playing just to be sure.

Let's say you have a friend entirely new to rock band and he/she only has 15 dollars or the microsoft point equivalent to download tracks. What 15 songs would you recommend?
It seems my original post didn't...ummm...post so I'm trying again.

CLIFF HANGERS!!!!!!!! (I'm very right.)

Plinko is the Leno of The Price is Right. It's old, outdated and boring. I'm with team Cliff Hangers.

My gaming memory is incredibly good as far as the actually gameplay. This is both good and bad. For example I just finished Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. And Now I'm coaching my mother through some of the toughest choke-points based strictly on memory.
Give me a level, and I can tell you where all the enemies are in any given part, what their programmed to do, and how to combat that.
I can remember this for almost all of my favorite games for about 6 or so months, then it goes dormant, however as soon as I start playing the first level it hits me like a brick to the skull.
This makes playing games over again for me impossible, because I remember the level layouts in my head and even if I can't remember what happened exactly from part to part story wise I can't get back into it. Ever.
I'm the same way with movies, also can't watch them twice save for a few classics( like A Christmas Story, Nightmare on Elm St, or Gremlins)
Tablet, no interest whatso.
Tough choice as I'd have to swear off SM64. Can't do it, develop them both concurrently, hand NSMB's to a new developer, and put your weight behind 3D. It's not like Nintendo has a shortage of third party developed games or anything, right?
I don't watch Lost, if I wanted to be (@$& teased for 6 years I'd get married.
I'll take Hi/Lo for 100 Alex.

Riddle me this. Since I'm OCD and big on completion in video games, it bugs me that Mass Effect giving out different in-game content depending on which retailer you pre-order from. Since I am not going to buy two copies of the game, I will never have experienced EVERYTHING (PC exclusives included). The Joker stuff on Arkham for PS3 got to me a little bit two.
I understand the, buy the game and get this so you don't just rent, mentality. Or even the, buy this shinier copy and you'll get a statue, line. I just don't think it is a good strategy to split content up between systems/retailers. It is not selling any extra copies. Is it?

Plinko > Cliffhanger
With plinko you are nearly guaranteed to win something, which will get you out of that first slot when spinning the big wheel. The later you spin, the better!
Lost - They have answers to many of the questions I've had, but I just don't necessarily like the answers they provide to the questions they bring up. Seems like they back in to all of thier solutions rather than having a grand plan and following through on it.

Cliff Hangers... on account of the yodeling.

I have to go with Plinko on this one. Something about bouncing disks on a flat, white board to gain oodles of money just kindles the kid in me.
Also, as much as I enjoy the 3D versions of Mario, I'm an old-school at heart (since that is what I grew up with), so 2D Mario is the winner for me. Plus, you can have more levels and a generally bigger game with 2D vs. 3D. It's cheaper to develop and you can turn out more 2D titles than 3D because of programming complexities. I just think that we are living in an age where we are at the pinnacle of 2D development... so why stop making them, right?

P.S.- You should have tried the Portal Chocolate Cake, Mr. Pfister. Yes, it seems complicated to make, but for the gamer with a serious sweet tooth, there can be no greater lie.

Best Price is Right game, that's tough, Plinko is way more classic but Cliff Hangers is much more entertaining. I think I choose Cliff Hangers, gotta love the yodeling!
