I've never played the original Final Fantasy or its sequel, despite Square Enix's best attempts to tweak and repackage the origins of their RPG franchise. I may finally succumb to temptation, however, with today's announcement that Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II are both coming to the iPhone.
Square Enix made the announcement on their Facebook page.
No prices or release dates were announced for Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II on the iPhone. Happily, though, the screen shots don't show a particularly obnoxious interface, suggesting Square Enix has spent a decent amount of time retooling the games specifically for the device.

No Way! Thats awesome. Im definatly gonna pick this up, i just hope they tweaked it to somehow make it easy for casual players. I heard 1 and 2 is VERY hard.

Are you serious?!?! I mean, it was inevitable, but is there anyone out there that hasn't played this like dozens of times across dozens of consoles and other handheld gaming devices. For the past 20 years? How many times must Squenix devote time and money to reinventing the wheel? When are they gonna figure out that it's time to give the people what they really want. A remake of Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9. FOR PS3 AND 360. NOT PSP OR DS.

Awesome! I loved the original Final Fantasy and an iphone version sounds good. I wonder which version is going to be ported. Judging by the screenshots I'd say maybe it's the PSP versions.
