More Rumors About Bethesda's MMO, Even Though It's Nothing Really New

It's not news that ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks and now id Software, is working on an MMO. The company has been hiring at ZeniMax Online to develop a "next-generation MMO" for some time. But the continued legal battles between Interplay and Bethesda over the rights to the Fallout brand have brought some (albeit small) details to light about that upcoming MMO.

For one, it's not based in the Fallout world. It would've been pretty natural to assume it's not a Fallout-based online adventure because Interplay themselves retained the rights to a Fallout MMO after Bethesda bought Fallout, but in latest court transcripts from Fallout community site Duck And Cover, it's been confirmed Bethesda (and, by extension, ZeniMax) is not developing a Fallout MMO.

In the words of Bethesda's lawyer, they're working "on something else."

What that "something else" is remains a mystery. It's been over a year since Fallout 3 was released and Bethesda has not announced either a follow-up to Fallout 3 (then again, we haven't seen an official reveal of Fallout: New Vegas yet) or a new installment in the Elder Scrolls series. According to VG247, the same website alleging the PlayStation 3 motion controller is named Arc, the as-of-yet unrevealed MMO is, in fact, the next game in the Elder Scrolls series -- an Elder Scrolls MMO.

Bethesda is due for an announcement. Maybe it will be this MMO. Stay tuned!

You Ladies don't get it an Elder Scroll's MMO would be the best thing in the world! I mean just because a bunch of morons are there with doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. This is why so many games fail. Because people get their nickers in a twist because "It's too different". This is why people like Bethesda(LOVE YOU GUYS!) Gets stuck doing the same thing. Different doesn't mean bad!

I think most of you are looking at this the wrong way. Betheseda's previous masterful experience would surely make for a new superior mmorpg. If anyone can get the balance between an immersive world which you can get lost in for hours by yourself and a game to jump on with your mates on and have fun, it's betheseda. The potential for a game like this with an already rich universe is huge. So long as when you're off exploring in the wilderness you don't often encounter other parties or groups, I'm sure the feeling of giganticness will remain. In relation to quests- the daedric gods provide an almost perfect way for the designers/moderators(or whatever they're called) to control the overall happenings in the game world, as to smaller, minor quests, either they could be left up to users, or maybe npcs.
This is even if betheseda are working on an elder scrolls MMO.

I really hope they don't ruin Elder Scrolls by making it into an mmo. I love the TES and I don't love mmo's...at all. Besides it would hardly fit the strong narrative that the TES games are known for, you can't feel like you are making any difference in the world if everything resets and there are a million more heroes just like yourself.

Why not - most single player RPG's are becoming grinds, just like most MMO's! Thanks, of course, the the wonderful multimarket we now have, rather than PS3, 360 and PC games markets

If they're going to make a online version of tes, it's ok with me as long as they change the gameplay a bet. I don't think they should keep the game- play same. This is what I think they should change: 1. Get rid of the idea of a main quest and all the other quest. 2. Make the guilds a job controled
by another player, instead of it being a set storyline. 3. If someone needs help for a job, they just make a quest. 4. Let players be able to open stores and shops. 5. The only thing I think npcs should be used for are the guards.

I for one do not play mmo's. I think it is a ripe off haveing to buy the game than being charged a monthy fee to play my game. No thanks.

Hopefully it will be another Elder Scrolls game. I have MW2 and a bunch of new and extremely popular titles, and I still play Oblivion the most. I've always loved it. With the improvements in video games since 2006, a new elder scrolls would be insane...Bethesda. You are stupid if you don't make another elder scrolls soon, because it would be insanely popular.

I hope it isn't an MMO. TES's strength has traditionally lain in a strong single-player experience. With so many multiplayer games these days, it is a relief to only need me and my computer to play a game, and not need millions of other people disrupting my immersion/escapism in a fantasy world.

It would be very difficult to have the RPG elements of dialog and quest choice mean anything if the world needs to be reset/kept the same so that everyone else can do the same exact quest and not have any conflicts. What if your quest ending is to kill the quest giver? You couldn't have something like that in an MMO and maintain continuity if the quest giver suddenly reappears for the next player.

Hopefully it is an Elderscrolls MMO. The only things that could have made Oblivion better would have been PvP action as well as real world PCs to interact and form parties with. Whatever the game may be, Bethesda has a stellar track record. I have full faith in their soul stealing abilities and expect them to give WoW a run for their money.

The only MMO I will ever play is LOTRO. If they made an Elder Scrolls MMO, I might play it. Screw WoW. That game's boring.

So I woke up this morning and logged straight into World of Warcraft, and open wow-gold-team.com ,as I do every morning except Tuesdays, what with the stupid "realm maintenance" nonsense.

I do think that they'd have their work cut out for them if it is an Elder Scrolls game. The setting already lends itself to the comparisons to WoW, so I'd hope they could find a way to make it unique.

That said, I'm really itching for some new Fallout info. We've heard practically nothing about New Vegas, so I'm hoping we get something soon.

The only way I would like an Elder Scrolls MMO is if it plays similar to how there previous installments did. I would hate to end up with something similar to WoW.

I don't know if I'd even be a fan of that to be honest. Part of the reason games like Oblivion and Fallout were so fun, is because it was just you exploring this large "virtual" word, with things to interact with. Once you start adding actual people there, it could sink or swim. Although the possibility of playing co op Elder Scrolls does sound very fun. I just hope its a console MMO experience, and that the monthly fee isn't too steep.

While I love BGS and have every bit of faith in them, I really just can't see a TES MMO working. The whole reason TES is as great a series as it is, is that it is completely immersive. The world seems real and the npc's behaviors help sell this, but if you have a huge group of real people in this world it will only take away from the effect. Can you imagine trying to believe you're in the world of Tamriel when there are hundreds of people trying to buy and sell crap in the city centers, or if people go out on "raiding parties". These things wouldn't happen in a "real" world; and I truthfully hope that they can be avoided, but they just seem to go hand-in-hand with MMOs...

    ...well, here's hoping anyways.

If there is an Elder Scrolls MMO, with the same next gen capabilities as the last. I will flip out, that was one of my favorite games of all time and an MMO of it would be absolutely amazing. If it does happen this could become of super popular MMO on consoles.
