Want to know how you could help out right now with relief efforts in Haiti simply by playing Halo 3 and/or Halo 3: ODST online multiplayer? Then listen up.
Bungie is holding a very special online multiplayer event today and tomorrow that all Halo players need to know about. For every thousand players who sport Bungie’s specially designed relief emblem in online matches of Halo 3/ODST, the developer will donate $100 to the Red Cross for Haiti relief efforts, with the maximum donation limit being $77,000.
The session is currently going on and will continue until 11:59PM PST tomorrow. All you have to do to participate is follow these instructions to alter your character’s appearance, and just play online as you normally would:
- Press START
- Select “SETTINGS” / “APPEARANCE”
- Select “EMBLEM”
- Select “Hearts” ICON, “Circle” BACKGROUND
- Back out to the APPEARANCES menu and select “COLORS”
- Set “EMBLEM PRIMARY” to RED (or MAROON / BRICK / ROSE depending on which game you’re playing!)
- Set “EMBLEM SECONDARY” to WHITE
Bungie is also selling a specially designed t-shirt in their online store and giving 100 percent of the proceeds to the American Red Cross.
As you know, the situation in Haiti following last week’s devastating earthquake continues to be utterly gut wrenching and horrifying, made even worse today by a magnitude 6.1 aftershock that caused even more damage to the country’s capital of Port-au-Prince. We previously posted a list of various charity organizations and relief funds that you can donate to, and G4 (along with E!, the Style Network and a host of other television networks) will be broadcasting George Clooney’s upcoming Hope for Haiti telethon this Friday, so there are lots of ways for you to get involved, and I sincerely encourage you to if you can, because every little bit helps.

All I have to say is, It's the least we all can do.

One question has been answered for me already: Halo 3 works as well. Question 2 though: will they count guests as well? Because if so, I can always get my younger brothers or other friends without Live to play as guests.

I am not going to support this again. Everyone in the world is using this to toot there own horn. We have given to the fund or the past 10 years. We have given Haiti 3 billion dollars in relief funds and now we are giving more to a country that is self imploding. Now we are going to send troops there to police and kill more people that don't conform and follow our rules. You want to support a relief fund go give money to someone that might scam you and keep the money. Don't play a game and say hey look I helped someone in Haiti by playing Halo. Bungie and or Microsoft can donate the money with out pulling gamer strings and trying to make themselves look good.

Someone do the math for me on that one...How many players does it take to get them to the max?
typhoon_2099
Why don't they just give the $77,000 anyway?

Works with both Halo 3 and ODST. Just like their "Fight the Flood" campaign back in 2005. I'll be sure to set some time aside today.

You should specify that playing regular Halo 3 online also counts toward the cause.
Because I can imagine the anti-Halo fanboys storming through here and saying "wtf dis is pointles odst doesnt even ahve match makeing".

The world is over populated. We need natural disasters to keep the numbers down. Gotta take the good with the bad.

this is a good way to get people to play Halo, at least for a couple of days. I've been hooked on MW2 for a while now, but, I see no reason not to do this. All you have to do is play a game. You don't have to haul supplies, man a phone, or cut a check. Just play a game, how easy is that? Anyone who complains about that should be shipped off somewhere where they can experience some true hardship and learn to appreciate how much your few minutes of time will help.

@Sarid: Who knows what they have donated so far? Ever consider the possibility that this may just be a little bonus so people can feel good about themselves on the inside? Just saying. We get all angry about celebrities and businesses doing this, when really we don't know whether or not this is there sole donation and they are capitalizing on disaster, or if maybe they are offering more warm fuzzy feelings for people.

wow kdub. that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Why don't you go kick a dying puppy you jerk.

this is stupid, is bungie really that cheap to have to have their fans make an icon so they can donate? if you are gona donate THEN JUST DO IT dont try and make us 'earn' your donation

Good to see Bungie do this! This elevates them on my list of great video game developers! Nice to see them give back.

Dude its for charity who cares. Don't play then, I mean ya its a ploy to play their game but they are giving to a charity.
Gamelife1
Good on Bungie, I updated my facebook status to let all friends with ODST know this.
