More bad news for Dragon Age: Origins players today. BioWare says that a fix for the recent Xbox 360 title update fiasco isn't quite ready yet, thereby delaying the re-release of Dragon Age’s most recent downloadable content, "Return to Ostagar."
BioWare explained on their official forums that a bug fix for the Xbox 360 is currently in the testing phase, and should be released sometime soon. The patch is expected to address the surprising number of unforeseen issues caused by the recent title update, and also restore save files for affected players.
The silver lining here, according to BioWare, is that future DLC will be tested much more thoroughly before being released, thereby preventing a similarly unpleasant situation from occurring again. Why these newly adopted testing measures weren’t in place before now is strange, but at least BioWare is learning from their mistakes. Better still, this latest delay isn't expected to affect the release of future downloadable content.

At least Bioware is a company that I can rely on to learn from its mistakes. Just looking at the vast improvements on the already impressive Mass Effect proves that Bioware accepts and listens to criticisms and learn from their mistakes. I can be sure that this wont happen again, unless EA pressures them to rush future DLC and updates.

One further comment on this topic for now:
More and more buggy updates and DLC seem to be plaguing XBox Live, following a period of frequent updates that lasted over a year. Perhaps general quality control efforts have slipped across the entire gaming marketplace or perhaps Microsoft quality control is suffering this fate alone. I, for one, noted that my 360 never red-ringed before the frequent updates, yet shortly after they began, it red-ringed several times over a few months and finally failed (right after my warranty expired, so I had to pay for replacement through Microsoft.) Another possibility is that as exemplified by the recent hack noticed in MW2 on XBox Live which allows a team to rig a match so that for every kill the enemy team gets, that team and individual receive massive negative XP, then it may be that hackers have cracked the encryption on Live, not just individual games.

It is a bit surprising that such a big bug could be missed. Sure, when you make something new there are bound to be some kinks, but it seems like a problem that locked people's specializations would have been more noticeable.

I downloaded the DLC when it was brought back to the MSN market place now I can't play my Dragon Age until they patch it. I am starting to go through withdrawls and No Mass Effect2 for 6 more days

What the hell is going on already? If Bioware is having this many problems with DLC that adds 5 minutes of gameplay(to a map already on the damn disc) I cant imagine all the fun to be had when the expansion comes around..

i'm all for them getting the DLC right, but if it comes too close to Mass Effect 2's release I'm probably going to lose interest and skip it

Testing a DLC hasn't been a big issue. If you think of all the time they spend making a game, all the bugs they have to work out and the codes they write. Come release date its all good or should be. Then the DLC is made off of the source code. Assuming the code was good, so should the DLC, but as we have seen in the past, developers don't remember all the bugs they fixed for the game and make new ones. Better testing is a good thing if only content was pushed back by a week or two.

I remember The Pitt bugs when it was released, and fixed within hours. Bethesda > Bioware.

Let's remember. This is a 'timed release'. They had to try to get it out, to meet their deal with MS, before the PS3 got it. Should've just brought it out at the same time.

I can tell you why these testing measures weren't adopted in the first place, the faster they put out DLC the faster they make cash. Sadly for Bioware it backfired and now they're losing money while they fix something that should have just been made right the first time.

Problem free DLC is a good thing.
