Morning Hangover -- Three Players In New Super Mario Bros. Wii Is Just Right

Nintendo Explains

Even though I'd previously decided to play through New Super Mario Bros. Wii over a long period of time (who knows how long Nintendo will make us wait for another side-scrolling adventure), I ended up blasting through most of the frickin' game with Andrew Pfister and my girlfriend on Saturday night. It was an absolute blast, though, and reinforced a theory I have with New Super Mario Bros. Wii: three players is the right amount. It's enough players that two people aren't getting angry at one another for screwing up and not enough to make it impossible to have coordinated play. It just felt right.

I disagree...3 players is awful for this game any more then 2 makes the hate grow between you and your friends because you'll be constantly killing each other. it may be by accident or on purpose, but trust me...it will happen.

does anyone else think its ridiculous that out of the entire catalog of Nintendo characters, spanning decades, the third and fourth players are just different colors of Toad?

I find it hardest with two players. I actually like four player the most because you can blast through levels and still screw each other over or help each other out. Also, 4 players leads to an all out laugh-fest, my fiancee and two of my friends were laughing so much my face hurt at the end of the night.

Played it with 4 players switching controllers around with me, my wife, my aunt, my parents and my kids playing. We had a blast but this game turned into a real player genocide :) This game made 3 generations of people playing together and it was fun. The cartridge should indicate that the multiplayer option changes the Rating from E to PG-13 (contains heavy swearing and verbal abuse). I never knew my aunt could swear that much and I should have probably covered my kids' ears a little bit more often ;) Still, it was funny.

That game is a single player game with multiplayer tacked on. I played it for 2 hours with my friends and we came to blows twice. Those commercials that Nintendo shows of people happily playing are outright lies. That game is not designed for 4 people or 2 people. Play one player and you will do you and your friends a favour.

I played through till the end with 4 players and we were ready to kill each other by the end of the night. Although in my case there was a pretty big difference in skill levels among the 4 people. So it was basically me and my one friend wanting to kill the other two for sucking so bad.

If you have 4 players that are equally skilled I don't see a problem with it.

I like to pick my friends up and throw them in the lava because they haven't figured out how to shake the wii mote yet=]...unless its my gf, then things start to go sour if I'm up to my shenanigans.

But one of my other roommates always tries to be a hero and fancies himself a 'speed runner' causing the rest of us to get stuck on the left hand side of the screen either dying or forcing us to bubble up. Thing is...he always fails I think he wasted about 5 continues on 8-1 (we passed when he stopped speed running) but wasted another 8 continues on 8-2 (when he decided to speed run again)...we ended up kicking him out.

So...I'm going to have to agree-my roommates and I work fine with 3.. but the fourth usually ends up messing it up for the rest of us

I always prefer to play alone, not that I have a choice in the matter. That is unless I unhook my system and take it to a friends house.

I was playing with my cousins and my sister last saturday and we barely could go through 4 levels, too much experience against newcomers isn't a good combination

My little brother got it for his b-day and we decided to play it together but we ended up fighting b/c we could not work together. Either I would jumo and him and make him die or the other way around. We just decided it would be best if we attacked the game solo lol
