What kind of game is it?

Dark Void is a 3rd-person action game that features a mix of on-foot gameplay and jet-pack powered flight.

Who's the developer?

Airtight Games was formed in 2004 by former members of the development studio FASA, who was responsible for the underrated Xbox flight game Crimson Skies. Former Valve developer and Portal figurehead Kim Swift recently joined the studio and is working on a yet-to-be announced project.

What's the story?

Dark Void's plot is fairly straightforward sci-fi. Our hero Will is a pilot who finds himself pulled into a different dimension called “The Void.” Here he uses his flight skills to help a resistance group fend off a looming alien threat. And he shoots stuff.

What's Dark Void Zero?

Dark Void Zero is an 8-bit inspired creation for DsiWare that features 2D gameplay and a complementary prequel story. You can grab it on the DsiWare shop for 500 points.

Multiplayer/Online?

As awesome as jetpack vs. jetpack multiplayer sounds (Tribes? Red Faction: Guerrilla?), Dark Void is a solo flight.

What'd we say?

Check back with us tomorrow for Sterling's review of Dark Void!

Technically it is a sound game, but the story seems to be born from the bunghole of a large, prehistoric beast. North's voice acting is excellent as usual, however he did a "straight Drake" take on this character.

This thing will tank. I love hearing Nolan Norths jokes it take me back to uncharted but when will capcom work on the series that have made them money like DMC5 and Onimusha5 these were great series they just need a new style. They should look at games like Darksiders, dante's inferno, bayanetta, and God of war for inspiration. COME ON CAPCOM, i miss the good old PS2 days!

Read the OPM review and they game it an 8/10. Giantbomb game it 3/5. they both agreed that the air combat is fun but the ground is lackluster. Seems like one of those ebay it later games.

right now GameRanking average is around 60%, looks like it'd be lower if it weren't for some anomalous reviews

Read some of the early reviews for Dark Void and it's not looking good. I'll probably rent the game when it's out.

This game's demo leave so much to be desired. I can't believe G4 is dedicating objective coverage to this title. The NES version looks more fun and the music rocked.

I played the demo a couple days ago and I actually liked it. The gameplay was different from most shooters and it mixed in the air combat. The game is developed by Airtight Games (developer of Crimson Skies for the Xbox) so they are familiar with air combat games. I'll hopefully be checking the full version out tomorrow when it releases.

I just downloaded Dark Void Zero, its awesome! You have to "blow" the dust out of the "cartridge" before you play the game, classic, and in true NES fashion its really hard. If you have a DSI get this one, its one of the few good games for DSIware.
