Don't Like Heavy Rain's American Box Art? Download The UK Version!

Heavy Rain will finally surface next month, but some folks are already upset over the art that's been picked to represent Heavy Rain on store shelves -- well, the one for North America. The consensus seems to be a preference for the more minimalistic UK box art for Heavy Rain.

Luckily, Sony Computer Entertainment America is striking a compromise. According to a comment from Sony on the PlayStation Blog, the UK cover will be made available as a downloadable PDF.

You'll have to print out the cover yourself, but at least it's an option. Hurray, compromise!

You know i never really noticed a difference in box art from different countries, until i read the gameinformer this past month, interesting.

But i think any American who downloads the UK boxed art should be lined up and shot, or have their mothers de cli tted

The content is what matters but a cool box art such UK Heavy Rain may appeal more to audiences who are new to video games. From a market profit standpoint we will see if this have any impact on sales. Still I will wait for the review befroe buying the game.

This isn't the first time this has happened, BTW.

Sony did the same thing with Resistance 2. Some people wanted the box art from the LE (which I liked less than the normal edition), so Sony gave the option for players to download and print their preferred box art.

I think the UK art is cooler, but that's also because I've been following the game for a long time and am fully aware of what it's about. It feels more like an awesome movie poster than the...cover that SCEA is using. That said, not sure I'm going to Kinko's to pay for a high quality print-out that won't look crappy in the case.

I don't know why they have different boxes to begin with. Globalization has pretty much blurred everyone's tastes. Seems to me like it's an outdated idea that different regions need different packaging aside from the legal requirements. All it does do is blur what image they actually want to project about the game because everyone has access to all of the different shipping items via the internet.

Who cares about the box art, all that matters is if the game is good.

But if we are critiquing the aesthetics of the box art, the UK version looks more mysterious. It is supposed to be a murder mystery, right?

Why are people making a big deal out of a friggin' box art for crying out loud? IT'S JUST BOX ART GUYS! It doesn't matter as much as what's on the disc. This country's gone mad!

Why are people going with the UK DL just for box art? IT'S A DOWNLOAD!!! What are you gonna do, burn the game to disc and print the cover out for it? Total FAIL....

I prefer the box art on the right. I dig the overall mood of it... dark. Its a mystery as to what the oragami represents in the game, but then again, the game is kind of a mystery. I also like the hint of blood on the oragami and near the logo there is steam that to me looks a lot like a skull. I feel that the cover art on the right pulls me in to a world a lot better than the other, a foreboding world.

I do like our rating logo better though!

I am baffled by the people who would prefer an origami animal to anything else. WTH does that tell you about the game? If I knew nothing about the game at all, I would walk right by that. Seriously a piece of folded paper in the rain is supposed to represent a game. Not to say the US version is better. I feel that if it was some independent game company that didn't advertise the game at all, would you walk up to this game and go "Wow, a piece of folded paper in the rain. I must have this game" ? I am thinking not. But since after I buy the game it goes in a shelf where the only time I see it again is when I take the disk out or put it back in..... I really don't care. But for people to actually complain about something so small as cover art is funny. Oh well to each his own, I guess. I just hope the game is as good as it looks. Now a chalk outline washing away in the rain would make me buy a game even if I didn't know what it was about :)

Add if we were getting the UK cover we'd be bitching about how we should have gotten the other cover.

The only issue I see with the American cover is that it looks like a standard film poster; you have four people looking in different directions looking vacant. Oh, and of course, being an American cover, one of them has a gun. It tells us nothing about the game. Film posters like this only work because the people in the picture are usually well-known actors. We know nothing about these CG models.

The Uk cover at least shows rain in its originality with an origami... duck? The origami might represent complexity meeting with simplicity (it's only a piece of paper until you fold it) and there shows the difference between NA and European focus: NA is all about commercialism because that's what are culture feeds off of (hey, it works for the economy) and Europe focuses on art. Nothing new there....

I liked the first "official" box art for America best with the newspapers and origami thing.

All of the Americans who care enough to complain about the silly box art should be lined up and shot.

At least the origami figure is on both covers, could've been a lot worse, but honestly, this isn't the type of game that we should be judging simply by its cover anyways. I'm definitely more interested in what's going to be happening on my TV screen.
