We know Nintendo plans to release the next Wii installment in its beloved Zelda franchise sometime in 2010. Whether the game will land stateside this year still isn’t known, but thanks to recent comments made by Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aimé on Nintendo Week, CVG reports, at least we now know how high Nintendo is setting the bar for the much anticipated title.
"Right now, it’s still in development but the key message that Mr. Aonuma and Mr. Miyamoto are telling us is that it really has to be perfect when it launches. That is what the fans are expecting," said Fils-Aimé.
Well, if fans weren’t expecting an absolutely perfect game before, they certainly are now.

I'm ready for a new main character no offense everyone but link is getting old and so is that same green elf costume. I'm also sick of the story its the same thing with mario too. There princess gets kidnapped and they must save them over and over again. geez nintendo please step it up and make somthing new.

I agree that Darksiders is the Zelda game we've been waiting for, minus the waiting for all these years.
Forget Zelda and pick up Darksiders!

Nintendelay can not release it as far as I'm concerned. Other companies are doing fine bringing out the games.

So long as it's not dripping with nostal gia, I'll be happy.

Sounds like the first step to a delay for Zelda. If I had to guess, I'd say that Mr. Miyamoto and Mr. Aonuma crapped their pants when Mr. Iwata said it was coming in October. Not wanting to embarras the boss by imediately coming out and saying "no way in heck!" they just release this statement about wanting it to be perfect, giving them an automatic excuse to officially delay it later.

I know this would be untraditional as hell. But there's so much dialogue in Zelda, the game is screaming for voice overs. If it is done, it has to be done "perfectly" though or it will have a very bad impression on us Zelda fans and any potential new fans.

I'm sure it will be fun. but it will not be perfect because the wii isn't perfect.

Link,
He's come to town,
Come to save,
The princess Zelda,
Ganon took her away,
Now the children don't play,
But they will,
When Link saves the day
HALLELUJAH!
Now Link,
Fill up your hearts,
So you can shoot,
Your sword with power,
And when you're feeling all down,
The fairy will come around,
'Till you be brave,
And not a sissy coward.

All I know is that a Star Fox Wii game needs to happen and it needs to happen now lol

If you ask me, "perfect" would be having a choice between Gamecube or Wii controls, and a choice between standard Zelda graphics or Wind Waker-style graphics.
I'm the only person I know who's favorite Zelda game is Wind Waker, though, so I doubt that second request would ever happen.

Zelda is Nintendo's must unblemished franchise so it should go with out saying that the game needs to be spot on in every way. It's just a shame all they've done is talk, if it does make it by the end of the year, we should see more then a trailer at E3, It's easy to see that they might be planing a demonstration at their press conference this year.

I take it as their saying it has to be good enough for it to surpass ocarana of time in every way, be a game that critics cant criticize, game of the year, and most importantly a wii seller.

i Hope it is perfect :D, i need a good action adventure game to play....and forget about school for a while.

That kind of statement should be read into. Considering the fact that there are always going to be flaws and room for improvement on a game...what exactly is Nintendo really trying to compensate for here by trying to make the,"Perfect", Zelda game? Of course they dominate in hardware and software sales, but the overall lifespan of a system like the Wii is going to have to be given some floaties at some point. It seems that Nintendo is recognizing that that time is now. Surely the rest of you can recognize the limited long-term potential for a system like the Wii. I'm not saying that Zelda itself is the "life saver" for the system because we all know it is still selling strong. The overall limitations of it's motion controls are already exhausted, and the games for it are becoming very repetitively similar. This is the first instance I have seen Nintendo express a need for perfection in a video gaming franchise that up until now has seemingly been well received, and just for the record I personally enjoy playing. Nintendo really should be worrying more about creating the next, "Perfect" gaming system...and this time make sure it's worth it in the long run.
