This Reader Unlocked Every Halo Achievement (Even That Halo Wars One)

Are you a Halo fan? Have you seen Avatar? You're going to want to pay attention to director James Cameron's response to my question about the influence Aliens had on Halo and vice versa.

One of the common responses to the first trailer for Cameron's Avatar was "whoa, that looks like Halo." Of course, moments later, most people realized Halo was deeply inspired by Cameron's own Aliens and Cameron was simply riffing on a style he invented. Bungie has admitted the influence numerous times.

"The funniest thing is when some of the so-called fanboys get up trashing Avatar for looking too much like Halo,"  he laughed during a recent interview with me that aired on X-Play. "It's like...pay attention. If I'm referencing anything, I'm referencing the source work for Halo, which is my own stuff. So I get to do that. Nobody else gets to do that, but I get to do that. My rule, anyway."

Based on his response, there's no doubt those comments ruffled Cameron's feathers a bit, but since he was laughing and smiling while describing the influence his movies have had on games like Halo, he seems over it. It's not featured in the X-Play segment (look for the rest of the interview soon), but Cameron also underscored his appreciation for his work entering into the "cultural zeitgeist."

This is bull in my opinion. Cameron stole the idea for Terminator from a very good author named Harlan Ellison. You can look it up on youtube. Ellison wrote for The Outer Limits, in an interview with Cameron before Termionator came out he straight up said when questioned about where he came up for the idea for Terminator that he had "ripped off a Harlan Ellison story". Cameron has no right to rip on anyone for saying anything. I love Terminator and Aliens, and even with this knowledge I still love them but it will be a cold day in hell before I give Cameron anymore of my money. Besides Avatar is a big ripoff of Disney's Pocahontas anyway.

Funny, because Aliens was a sequel. Cameron did not invent the Alien universe. Thus, if anything, Ridley Scott should be the one complaining.

I did play Halo for a little bit, just Multi Player for only a bit but not to be like this is the most amazing game ever. I do like how Bungie were influenced by some of Camerons work but Cameron saying he could use that material cuz of that O_O Face it guys James bad ass Cameron has become a freakin deuchbag. First the Avatar The Last Airbender court bashing, then the online gamer with MMORPGs remark now THIS! Cameron what the hell is your problem man.

Cameron isn't my favorite director, but he has directed some films that left huge impressions on me and how I look at entertainment today. Aliens, Terminator, Titanic (budget/hype/scope/scale) all of these films were monumental at least after enough people had seen them, and now they can probably share space in as many homes as Mickey Mouse or American Idol. I guess I am a little confused as to the reaction from Cameron back to the fan-boys. He got on their a$$es the same way I or anyone else would who hasn't accomplished the things he has. On the other hand, it could really tell you a lot about him and how much of himself he leaves on the set and in the editing room so that we can finally see these films. I've never watched an artist really take on criticism like that though, I guess I always took Cameron for someone that avoided or just never had to deal with much conflict professionally, I guess I was wrong. But, not as wrong as the biggest trick fan-bays of any game ever made. First try loving a game that doesn't seem to intentionally deprive the player of quality execution on everything outside of MP and mostly everything within MP, then pick your battles in REAL LIFE better.

What would be interesting is...what if he directed a Halo movie, if he spent the right amount time working on it, i believe he could make an epic Halo movie. Just throwing the idea out there...

James Cameron has made some excellent films, but if it's true that he "ripped off himself" that almost seems worse. It just proves he's running out of ideas. Whatever happened to something original? Even Tiger Woods tried something new! ; )

I saw Avatar and i really liked it; I did not notice the similarities between it and HALO. I dont remember seeing master chief or ODST people running around..Just blue people with bows and arrows and some mechs that reminded me of the one ripley used to kick some Alien butt in Aliens. Im pretty sure Halo isnt original and they got their concepts from other cultural science fiction film or literature...so they should just shut up!!! OMG it has robot mechs and helicopter things and space ships...IT IS SOOOOO HALO!!! These people should get a life! The movie mostly ripped off the movie Dances with Wolves or the Last Samurai than it did Halo...so Bungie should just shut up and make a game like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2... and get over themselves...Halo is dead...make new material!!!!

I'm young, age of 15 and I LOVE Aliens
I like Halo as well and to be honest I didn't see any similarities between the two

And James Cameron has been very important to the Movie Industry and Sci-Fans everywhere
But have we forgotten that he MADE THE ALIEN SEQUEL!!!!! It wasn't his original idea Alien and Aliens are classics but it wasn't his original idea like Avatar was

P.S. It's game over man!!! Game over!!!

Avatar is one of the best movies made of all time. Great story line, great acting, and awesome CGI. I didn't think Halo AT ALL when I saw this movie 3 times. I still can't think anything Halo when I think of this movie.

If they ever get back on track for making the Halo movie, I think James Cameron should direct it. He would obviously do a good job.

This isn't just a problem with halo. Notice how since God of War came about and now many gamers keep comparing all action titles to GoW like it was the first do attempt what it did.

This issue is more the redundancy of people opening their mouths without knowing what the hell they are talking about. Personally I find it quite funny they are essentially ripping on material that was inspired by what Halo was inspired by. It's like they are ripping on Halo itself, which to me is priceless.
