Nintendo Discontinues Metroid Prime Trilogy

If you want to get your hands on a copy of Nintendo’s Metroid Prime Trilogy, you might want to hit up your local games store sooner rather than later, as Nintendo has announced that it has stopped shipping its Wii combo-pack to retailers.

In a statement issued to Coffee With Games (via Edge Online), Nintendo confirmed the news, adding, "When first introduced, it was announced that there would be limited availability.  However, a reason for this was not announced.  That being said, you may still be able to locate a copy via stores that specialize in previously played or used games.

Obviously, this doesn’t clear up exactly why Nintendo decided to make the game only available for a limited time. I contacted Nintendo, and was told to expect an official comment soon.

Anyone planning to pick up a copy of the game while they’re still available? How many people were considering trading in your copy until you heard this news?

This is rather sad news to hear. I know that the Steelbook case for the Trilogy is a hot thing to have on your shelf, but atleast offer a normal case of the Trilogy to the latecomers at the very least.

The Metroid Prime Series should forever remain on the store shelves as I see it, this is a series every Sci-Fi and/or FPS player should experience once in their lifetime. As I played it recently, I see that the game has aged pretty well. It's still a gorgeous game to watch, and surprisingly a blast from the past.

I wait to hear Nintendos response...

Well it wouldn't be a collector's edition if you could pick it up anytime.
Luckily I got it for Christmas. It's definitely worth it one of the best deals Nintendo has put out in while

Crap, I've been wanting this game but haven't had the extra money to pick it up. Also, Santa hated me this year. I hope I can find one.

On a side note, the Metroid trilogy game reminds me of 3 other limited game releases Nintendo did. There was the Zelda collectors edition game. You could only get that one new if you subscribed to Nintendo Power or if you went to the Nintendo store to buy it. Fortunately I got that one. I missed Electroplankton, though. I know a lot of people didn't want that one, but I did. Then there's the Game and Watch collection, which would only want as a collectors item.

I wonder what other games are out there that were limited or special releases.

I bought it on day one. It was well worth the $50 price tags. Come on, 3 great games for the price of one? Playing Metroid Prime on my Wii was just awesome

typical Nintendo move, I never got a Nintendo GameCube but noticed when I got the Wii that they did the same to all their GameCube games, limited releases, luckily I got Metroid Prime 1 & 2 games on GameCube while they were under $20 each, but I want the Mario Golf, Baseball, Soccer and Tennis GameCube games to play on the Wii with GC controls (since Nintendo's Wiimote controls are crap, and they don't offer GC control support on the Wii versions), but since those were of limited production and in high demand those games can run up to $100 each for new copies, I guess I'll have to buy cheaper used and hope they weren't mutilated by their previous owners

funny though, since buying a Wii I've boughten just as many GC games for it and they're the best ones to play, many of them being GC games that got ported to the Wii like they're new, but those Wii versions suck it 'cause I got GameCube controls

Nintendo needs to cut their loses. The economy is still effecting everyone so... something had to go. I like metroid fusion, but never finished the first prime. I would like to own all three, but unfortunatlly I'm strapped for cash like everyone else

This sounds exactly like what Disney does with their animated classics; they stop shipping them for a while then bring them out of the Disney vault and jack up the price.

Why not just pack it with the Wii for a limited time? I really don't understand this move [maybe it's some kind of legal matter or it didn't sell as spectacularly as expected. I know they said limited time but in the game business that rarely means much. Oh well at least I still have 1 & 2 for the Gamecube [Still haven't found time to beat them and it's been years.].
