It looks like Madden NFL could be in for a shakeup in 2010. Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello told analysts today that his company is currently preparing an "innovative and new take on Madden" for release in fiscal year 2011 (which would dictate a release date before March 30, 2011).
Madden NFL is typically released every August.
Riccitiello's comment came during a conference call about the company's financial outlook.
It's been a tough year for Electronic Arts. The company has taken a beaten financially, punctuated by today's news that EA has revised its outlook for the end of its fiscal year.
What could be in store for Madden NFL, though? Time to speculate away.

I agree 110% with Berserker Wolf, im sick of all the big whop on Madden, I used to LOVE that game n I have every season starting from 2003 but now i cant stand it when they say "it's a totally different madden this year" that stuff is getting ridiculous!

madden was great back in the 16bit era. although tecmo bowl was a better game 2 me as well as sega sports football, Mutant League football remains the best from EA. 32bit/64 era NFL GAMEDAY was the best game. 2k set a standard of excellence: THE BEST CONTROLS 4 FOOTBALL EVER MAXIMUM PASSING (you can put the ball in the perfect spot) GREAT ONLINE PLAY, THE BEST ANIMATIONS,TEAM SPECIFIC PLAYBOOKS,on the fly audibles, innovative defensive and offensive adjustments. EA's are 2 obvious since u always had 2 highlight the player on defense which of course the person on offense hiked the ball when your defense is not set , runners "getting skinny" on short yardage plays, returning missed field goals, impossible in madden til 08, the presentation was the best ever(2k5) notice how they sold it for 20$, outsold madden only for EA 2 get the exclusive license?!? Im never going 2 get that. I AM ALSO PROUD 2SAY NO MADDEN GAME IS WORTH 60+ 199ALLSTAR,JIMBOBMCCLAIN,BONER JAM YOU ALL HAVE VERY VALID POINTS AS WELL. Incorporate Tony hawk's board lmfao! peace

I'll keep boycotting EA and all the games they make until they bring back games for Windows for the PC. Until they do I Hope this company crashes and burnes and some other company out there gets the gig.

Yeah right. The worst thing that could have happened happened. The NFL shouldn't have given EA exclusive rights because Madden has sucked ever since.

I think EA has become too big for its own breeches. It's become such a monolithic corporate entity that it can't afford to take the risks necessary to be innovative. All software companies in all aspects of business go from innovation to iteration directly in proportion to their corporate size. Each new Madden game is always just the same as last years with a few modifications and a new roster. You know why? That's because last year's version sold well. And the year before that sold well. And the year before that.
The only way we'll see any kind of new risks taken on the franchise is when it's no longer making the big money and it seems that's what's happening here. But if '11 rakes in big sales, don't expect to see any major changes in Madden '12.

They'll be incorporating the Tony Hawk Ride Board for the running and Passing game.

2k was not innovative.. dude do you even know what that word means. NFL 2K was the first football game to have players modeled in a 3 dimension look. When it came out it was ahead of it's time. people were looking @ the game asking if it was a real football game. NFL 2k with the dream cast made it so that you can call your plays by looking on the screen on your controler and not on the screen. Instant replay, the crib, playing the game from a first person, create a players, hot routes, shifting defensive players. NFL 2K not innovate... CHILD PLEASE!!!

you guys that like 2k are all retarded if you go back and play that game you'll realize how much it sucked in the few years they were active they didn't do anything to innovate football games.
Drop_Six
Why don't they just release a new Madden game every 2 to 3 years and just release updated roster dlc during the years they don't release the game. At least then they would have more time to actually come up with something innovative and new. But then again maybe that makes too much sense.

I'm guessing August 2011, if they are going to "reboot" the franchise, they will need more than a few months or a year to do it. I never really followed the old games but I still play '09 and it sucks now because it seems like the last update made it play more like '10 w/ 15 turnovers a game. '10 was just a new engine for NFL Street or Arcade w/ a Madden skin, it's just sloppy. Hopefully, the new game swipes some ideas from Backbreaker, which looks like the most obvious choice for EA to switch to...who knows, after such a long run with the same options stripped down at the beginning of a console gen, and build it back up by the end, that may become the way a lot of people like play a football game, at least running the ball.

I can see it now from EA : Attention gamers we have come up with an innovative way of taking more money from your pockets, we will now charge an extra 10 bucks to use the franchise mode

After Madden '07, I gave up on them.
Warrior567
every thing about madden is good except for that gang tackle system. its just broken, you can break tackles from 5 DBs
Tmidiman
I speculate that G4 and all the rest of the gaming media will give the new madden game high scores no matter what type of putrid monkey feces is released.
How's that for speculation?
Boricuastorm
Maybe they're thinking of releasing after the 2010 season is over.... hmmmm.

they had better because a new Madden every year is an insult to gamers. nothing ever changes, graphically its weak, at best. only people that habitually purchase Madden games are more football fan than game. get it together EA, dont release a whole new game, unless it truely is a whole new game...
BerserkerWolf
I bet they're "innovate new take" is something that the NFL2k series has already done. LOL Madden has been getting worse every year. I thought this years version had potential. but it sucked. EA keeps trying to rehash the same game engine they used since the ps2/xbox days and the result is the same crappy game with a few gimmicks here and there. EA has monopolized the football video game market and we, the consumers, get screwed in the process. Competition can bring the best out of us. We could have had 2 great football games to choose from, but instead we have one lousy game we are forced to buy in order to play as our favorite NFL players.
