Capcom Reiterates Wii Support, Backs Away From Heated Statements

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles wasn't nearly the hit Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles was, something Capcom France blamed earlier this week on gamers leaving Wii.

"There's clearly a problem with this style of game on the Wii," said Antoine Seux, director general of Capcom France to Gamekult. "Gamers have obviously moved on to other things."

Capcom is singing a slightly different tone this morning, however.

"Further to comments made in a recent article on French website Gamekult," said Capcom in a statement to various European outlets, including Eurogamer, "Capcom would like to confirm its commitment as a multi-platform developer and publisher of interactive software."

The statement doesn't exactly address the issues Seux raised, however. No one doubts Capcom will continue supporting Nintendo's console -- it's how much they'll continue to support it.

gotta make a good game if you wanna make money. your games suck its your fault, not a graphically inferior concole (the only thing the Wii really has going against it).

Haha... I just sold my Wii on craigslist this morning. I probably played it not even 100 hours since I got the console at launch. My only wonder is why I didn't sell it sooner.

Nintendo needs to hear some other comments like this, although it is a strong "casual" console, thats all it has going. Casual gamers probably wont get games like Resident evil because they are two players at most, and they probably want to play games more suited to groups of people. Any sort of serious game would be snubbed in large to the group of gamers who gave the Wii a chance, but when Nintendo failed them, they got rid of their Wii. I grew up with Nintendo, and loved all their consoles but the Wii although innovative, leaves a lot to be desired. I liked the resident evil games, but its hard to cough up all this money for so little bang, Nintendo needs to change their strategy before they become the way of the past. Catering to everyone doesn't have to equal sucking. Capcom is one of the few companies keeping the Wii afloat, hopefully Nintendo wakes up and decides that they should try to have the best of both worlds.

Mediocre Games + Expensive Peripherals + Little Bang for your Buck = Fail

If we could get Zelda, Mario and Metroid and a few others on other systems the Wii would be dead.
    Sorry Nintendo.

Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles would be a cool game to play with Natal or just with a 360 controller with someone on xbox live.

I understand how capcom France feels, the Wii can't be taken seriously because it's a very casual console. And indeed, many gamers moved from the Wii to the other consoles. It's a surprise that the darkside chronicles didn't sell because it's one of the few games on the Wii that are actually worth buying.

well you can still be a multi platform developer and not have to do anything on the wii, so i think capcoms safe...

the faster the big developers leave the wii the sooner Nintendo will be pushed to making a new console that has the capabilities of the other 2
