Feedback -- The Next DS, The Insanity of Bayonetta, and Do We Believe in 3D?

It's 2010, and what a fun, sexy time it is for Feedback. We're kicking off the new year in grand style with Sega's Bayonetta, our Game of the Week. I watched Patrick play it earlier in the week, and my brain's comprehension ability shut down after about a half-hour. But the funny thing is, I couldn't avert my gaze. It's like a high-calorie train wreck that you want to give the MST3K treatment to, but will still end up genuinely enjoying just because of how crazy it is. How did Abbie, Sterling, and Patrick feel about it? You're going to have to watch...

Feedback -- Bayonetta Edition »

Also on this week's agenda:

  • Nintendo chief Satoru Iwata revealed that the next Legend of Zelda game will hit the Wii in 2010. No details were revealed, but it's nice to know that it's only about 11 months away.
  • He also started talking about successor to the Nintendo DS. "Higher resolution" and "motion sensing" were mentioned, which isn't really too surprising given the Wii's success and how old the current DS tech is.
  • The Consumer Electronics Show is happening in Vegas, and the collective geek spotlight is on 3D television. After the impressive demonstration in Avatar, is it something we're willing to wrap our eyes around at home?

Feedback: Suggestively sucking on lollipops since 2009.

I love Feedback, if I could listen to people talk about video games on the radio I would make that my car radio home rather than sports talk. I am very excited to hear about Zelda on the Wii. Can't think about buying a new nintendo console given I don't really use the Wii for good games and if it's just an HD version I could really care less. If it is an add on to the Wii I would consider it like Natal for my 360. I am not interested in a 3D TV until comes standard with an HD TV. I really do hate having to put on different glasses to watch my TV.

Avatar's 3d was great. i have to disagree with adam, he's probably got bad eyes. Avatar, while not the best movie of the year, was a very good movie and the 3d was nice and subtle

i like being able to hold the disc i bought in my hand... that's just how i am. downloadeable content kind of screws everyone but the people selling it, as far as consoles go... because you don't own it, one, and two, you need the hard drive space to hold it all... so if you get the entry level hard drive, be prepared to be disappointed... i mean sure, there's a purchase history, and you can go back and download it at 'any time', but what if that's lost in some terrible accident...

i'd rather be happy to know that all of my physical games will survive the apocalypse, because they were stored in my underground vault... so that when it all blows over, i can whip them out and kill some time in between gathering fire wood...

Cool, I was mentioned. Yea, Nintendo does have a habit of releasing great games one yr, but its always the next yr that seems dull. I have to say though, I purchased a Nintendo Wii because I cant miss out on the Mario and Zelda titles. Specially since they are my childhood greatest franchise. Thats basically why I have one.

lol, close Adam. You say my name like this. Valen tino G

While I hate being one of the seemingly overheated fanboys, I think Abbie is easily the most interesting, intelligent, and attractive woman on screen on G4. The fact that she is obviously a genuine gamer makes her just that more attractive. Not to be someone to exclude, I also think that Adam & Patrick are really well informed. They always have something intelligent to say and I highly respect them. The only time I felt like Patrick was lagging is when he did the story about Mass Effect 2 ripping off Iron Man's armor, but I can excuse it seeing as how his other work is actually full of quality.

The "new" DS better have a crap load of new features besides motion control in order to convince me that it is the next generation of the handheld and not another "upgrade" to the DS. Im still perfectly happy with my standard DS, and felt no reason to ugrade to the DSi mostly because the loss of the backward compatibility didnt seem worth it just for a camera and online store. Nintendo also needs to spend a little more time on their development of their handhelds and put all the features they want in there, instead of just rushing out the same thing with 1 or 2 new features every couple of months.

@ Patrick: American Gods is pretty good. I recommend picking up Anasi boys too if you haven't read that too.

With all this high-tech stuff going on, is out of my league. The companies or franchises are leveling up their game and rightfully so, people want the hottest thing around. Who knows, if I hit a parley any time soon, then maybe, just maybe, I'll get one of those high-tech devices. Seems like a couple of nice ones that's for sure.

3D is crazy, I doubt anybody wants to wear glasses just to wacth some T.V, let alone to enhance their experience. I'm sure later on it'll get people's attention but for the meantime, I doubt the average person is gonna get their hands on the next big thing since HDTV's have been around for an awful long time. Maybe the rich people but that's not real America. I could see the new gadgets though, those could become indispensable and valued for such an individual nowadays.

don't think digital dstribution will be the future not everyone even has the internet unless they start selling pre-loaded flash drives with games on them plus i know hard drives r bigger but game and movie files r to and the next generation they'll be bigger so you'll always be limited to a certain amont of games. i'll believe it when i see it although i do like the option to download but that's the way it should stay an option.

These days 8 hours of gameplay is a standard and I can't understand why you are upset about DA:A being 40$. The most important thing is the quality of the product and considering that the game (PC version) was already done in summer 09 I have no doubt that expansion will be awesome!

P.S. - On the PC is should be 30$ or something. PC rules!

    3 Questions

    1. Are you guys short on mics?
    2. Why night?
    3. Why does Sterling think so hard about evertything he is gonna say?

    I love Feedback.

Thing about Avatar is that after a very quick 2 hours and 40 odd minutes, my jaw was on the floor. Yes you could see the story coming a mile away. No it didn't change my life or the movie industry forever. But I was entertained. That being said I fully agree that the day it adopt 3d is the day 3d no longer requires glasses.
    Happy New Year!

"Everyone wanted Mass Effect instead." I guess, now we have the reason why Dragon Age was largely ignored by X-Play, it's because it isn't Mass Effect. I'm looking forward to ME2 as much as the next guy, but damn, DA is treated like the step-child no one likes.
