Crime SceneAccording to The Associated Press, police in central New Jersey have busted the notorious "Grinch Gang," a group of miscreants who bedevil Christmas by swiping game systems from family homes. They've been active since early November, jacking numerous Wiis, PlayStation 3s and 360s from all over the area.

But, like many, many criminals, the Grinch Gang were ultimately idiots. They were caught when a theft victim's friend noticed his buddy's gamertag was still online. The police were called. Warrants were issued. Arrests were made. Three teenage crooks were collared, and a fourth is sought.

The moral of the story, if there is one: Don't steal. And if you must steal, make a new account before you play online, you doofus.

I protect my systems with a pack of deformed Rottweilers. I feed them horse-meat mixed with gunpowder, because it tears up their stomachs and makes 'em mean. What about you? Do you take any special precautions to protect your stuff from grinches, confidence men, cads and/or career felons?

I dress my PS3 in the cover jacket of Sarah Palin's Book that way no one will EVER steal it.

i remember when all my systems were stolen. what i did for justice were: keep letting the police do nothing for help, listen to "i will wait for you" by Holly Cole, spent days just in the shadows, then save money for a long time to buy new systems. and last but not least is hope they don't get stolen again.

Eh...I wouldn't say how they were caught. Just because if it happens to others they might make the same mistake.

I have my door locked put a piece of paper in my door so if it opens the paper falls but i also keep a piece of mechinical pencil lead in the henge of the door so if it opens the lead breaks. i also turn the handle to my door 1/4 of an inch down. Finally we have cameras hidden all over my house.

I'll keep my Xbox in my zombie deathmatch arena. They'll never reach it.

i got all my stuff on a home theater network behind a steel door in a temperature controlled room... not to mention that this room is in a hidden wall in the house... thieves would be more likely to be electrocuted than find the server room for my place

This is pretty funny, being that I live 5 minutes from Franklin (where this took place). Majority of that town is very wealthy. I guess the kids were just bored...not much to do around here.

I have an entire legion of my finest troops guarding my 360. As long as the thefts aren't spear wielding teddy bears, I should be fine.

I have C4 placed behind my TV attached to a pressure sensitive switch so if my PS3 is moved it will detonate.

Really though I have all of my serial numbers, MAC addresses, account numbers, etc recorded several times. I also require my password before any purchases and autologin is on so if I appear online it can be traced.

I need to put a password on my laptop, but I keep a Batman-esque eye on my gaming valuables.

I'll keep this in mind, even at my small-population college, G4.
