Guitar Hero Van Halen

Van Halen will rock your damn face off, sissy... but can the hottest band of the 1980s stand up to the video game treatment?

In G4's review, Andrew Pfister (known in Southwest Indiana as a rock and roll legend) puts the game through its paces and asks the age old question: Why can't this be love? Answer: Band in-fighting. Sammy Hagar does not appear in the  game, and...

Long-time bassist Michael Anthony is replaced by current band bass player and 18-year old son of Eddie Van Halen, Wolfgang. The Anthony omission is purely visual, but no Hagar means no "Right Now," "Why Can't This Be Love?", or "Poundcake."

Over-saturated genre much? Enough already with this (insert word here) Hero craze. Am I the only one bored to tears? It's starting to feel like Dynasty Warriors in that a new one is released every couple of months without any change in the gameplay. It has even taken over karaoke nights at bars. I'm officially ready for the next game fad.

Definetly a Van Halen fan, and I am so let down. All though I was happy about the fact that the free game offer had nothing to do with the retail store that sold GH5. That meaning I went and purchased GH5 with the sole intention of getting VH as soon as possible, and then I just returned GH5 without anyone asking a question. The extra songs do suck, the game was thrown together, and no story at all. (I know GH dosen't boast much of a story as is, but come on.) Hagar was needed. It would have givin the game more appeal, and the guitar parts are still sick so its not like die hards would shut it off. Activision did to many things wrong, I'm sure Van Halen themselves are also to blame for this. But sitting in front of me is a free game from my favorite band, so I cant complain.

Way to completly shaft Michael Anthony! It's not like he was in the band since it's inception or anything. Him and Sammy Hagar were the only members of the band to show up at their induction into the R&R Hall of Fame and this game shafts them both. And another thing, screw Wolfgang! There is no way he has "mastered the instrument" in a few months like Eddie says. Guys like Victor Wooten, John Entwistle and Cliff Burton spent years of practice for hours each day before they mastered the bass, and even then they still practiced regularly trying to improve upon themselves. This kid has been playing bass for about as long as I have, and I'd still challenge him to a face off any day. Michael Anthony, he is not.

why hasn't there been a Muse: Rock Band???

They've said that they'd like to be in a music game and Matt is already a character in GH5 and they already have tracks in the games licensing shouldn't be *that* difficult

Led Zeppelin will never allow anyone to make a game based off their music. If you know anything about the band you know that they are incredibly protective of their msuic.

I disagree. I think if you want a Guitar Hero: Van Halen, you want ALL of Van Halen's best, not just the David Lee Roth stuff. Sure, that was the best Van Halen, but there were some good Hagar songs as well. Not having those is just a glaring omission. Not that it really matters, it seems like this was pretty much a throw-away title for Activision, the care and love placed in GH: Metallica just didn't transfer to GH: Van Halen.

With all due respect to Andrew, I do not think many Van Halen fans wanted songs not sang by David Lee Roth. I only played the demo and based on that, I would have given this games 1 or 2 starts. Hopefully Activision won't be on charge of making a Led Zeppelin game.
