BioWare wants you to take decisions seriously in Mass Effect. Even though the relationship building (and eventual sex scenes) were a bit goofy in Mass Effect, they will play into the sequel. Whether you thought about it or not, at a San Francisco hands-on event for Mass Effect 2, BioWare co-founder and CEO Ray Muzyka told me those romances will have an impact on the characters in Mass Effect 2.
"Yes, some of the romantic relationships you can develop in Mass Effect 1 could be reflected in Mass Effect 2," said Muzyka, "if you run into some of those romantic liaisons and you meet those characters again. We're not going to say which ones, or if all, or some of them."
Even though BioWare have been more openly discussing aspects of Mass Effect 2's story, Muzyka made it clear there are plenty of surprises being left for fans to discover on their own in January.
"We aren't really spoiling which of the companions from the first game make it as companions in the second one," he said, "but I think pretty much every major companion or character from the first game...you'll see what happens to them in Mass Effect 2."
I don't even remember who I hooked up with in Mass Effect.
