With 2010 about to kick off, the G4tv.com and X-Play teams took a look at the games set to release (or are likely to) in the next year. What follows is a list of the top 5 most anticipated games for each editor. How will it compare to your personal list? Which games will live up to the hype? Which games are you looking forward to? Leave your list in the comments section.

Rob Manuel -- Associate Producer, X-Play

Last Guardian

The Last Guardian

Most gamers know Team Ico for their beautifully haunting landscapes, their quirky but always inspiring gameplay, and taking their sweet time producing their next masterpiece. A veil of mystery still surrounds The Last Guardian, a game that seemingly combines the companion aspect of Ico with the giant climbing action of Shadow of the Colossus. While the release date may slip into 2011, I will be patiently waiting to get back into a world that could only be designed by Team Ico.

Okamiden

To not already love Okamiden, the sequel to Okami and perhaps the most charming DS game next year, is to have a solid chunk of coal pumping prune juice through the frail body you call a life. It has yet to be seen if this younger Okami still has the puzzle and action chops of his big sister, but seeing the brush mechanics delivered to a system that can actually make them accurate is highly encouraging. Also, it’s super adorable.

Epic Mickey

Epic Mickey

When the pictures leaked of a super secret project involving Warren Spector and a certain animated mouse, people flipped. These were not your ordinary saccharine sweet portraits, but post-apocalyptic, steam-punked versions of the characters from the old Disney Cartoons. The fact that they’re bringing back Oswald as a main character to the game make me believe that these crazy kids might be on the right track.

Fez

This little man in a little red hat has been buzzing around the indie world for some time. Mix the concept of Crush and a little 8-bit platforming and what you get is an amalgamation so hip that you might need tight pants just to play it. You can check out some of the released tracks at http://polytroncorporation.com/

Golden Sun DS

If you played the original duo on the GBA, then you would already be excited for one of the best RPG series to ever grace the handheld. Stop asking silly questions. Go demand a pre-order from your local gaming emporium.

Mike D’Alonzo -- Manager, Interactive Services

Batman: Arkham Asylum 2

Not really sure if this game is actually going to come out in 2010, but I can only hope. Based on the new teaser trailer, it looks like there’s going to be big doings in Gotham. I only hope they add more of the villains that were only casually represented in the first game.

BioShock 2

BioShock 2

I’ve been dying to get back to Rapture ever since I finished the first game. Just the idea of taking on splicers again and meeting the enigmatic Big Sister make me very excited to play this game.

Red Dead Redemption

I’m a sucker for a good western game, and the original Red Dead Revolver was one of the best. My only complaint with the original is that it wasn’t long enough, but that doesn’t appear to be an issue with this new Rockstar game, which appears to be mammoth in its scope.

Green Day: Rock Band

Yes, I know that it doesn’t look like a biggie to most of you, but I can only imagine how much fun it will be to play all of “American Idiot” from front to back. Prepare your wrist for some very heavy, very fast strumming.

Darksiders

Come on. You get to play as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? How can you not want to play this game? And the good thing is that it’s going to come out relatively soon in 2010, so I don’t have to wait long to see how it is.

Albert Iskander – Segment Producer, X-Play

MAG

MAG

256 players online, guns a-blazin’, people screaming over headsets, and mass chaos. How can you resist?

Splinter Cell Conviction

Jason Bourne done right.

Lost Planet 2

I was one of the few people that loved the first one. Add in 4 player co-op campaign, gigantic beasts, and I’m sold. Who’s teaming up with me?

God of War III

Do I really need to explain why I’m looking forward to this?

Epic Mickey

It’s going to be better than Kingdom Hearts.

Stephen Johnson -- Lead Editor, TheFeed

Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain

If this game is as effective as the hype for it has been, it really might change the game industry. But even if it ends up being an interesting failure or a curiosity, at least it will be something different.

Red Dead Redemption

Grand Theft Auto in Sergio Leone’s Old West might be the best idea for a video game ever. I’ve always wanted to be a cowboy, but I was born in the wrong century, so this game will have to do.

Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout 3 is among my favorite video games of all time, and while I realize the semi-sequel has been farmed out to Obsidian as opposed to being developed in-house at Bethesda, I don’t care. I’m still completely looking forward to it.

Rock Band 3

While the music game genre may be quickly dying up in terms of sales, by next year it will have been around long enough to have completely dialed in everything that makes rhythm games awesome. Rock Band 3 (if it comes out in 2010) may well be the music game genre’s high point and swan song at once.

The Last Guardian

There’s nothing I can say about this game that the below trailer won’t say better.

lmao, it's funny seeing people poke fun at The Last Gaurdian calling it boring when they have never played a Team Ico game or know anything about the game itself...sometimes i just love ignorance, just gives the under-estimated a greater impact when it does good. Anyway my most anticipated games include:
    The Last Gaurdian (PS3 Exclusive)

God of War III (PS3 Exclusive)

    ModNation Racers (PS3 Exclusive)

    Darksiders

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (whenever that comes out)

    Transformers: Battle For Cybertron

3D Dot Game Heroes (PS3 Exclusive)

Nier (PS3 version looks like its got a better story)

And Whenever FF XIII Versus (PS3 Exclusive)decides to show its face ill be happy to pick that up on release. Dunno what I'll be picking up for my 360 if anything this year considering Alan Wake and Halo: Reach don't really strike my interest and seem like the only 360 exclusives coming up (Natal is a EyeToy clone anyway..plus the wand looks better). Plus, i've pretty much lost all faith in the console as a whole when it stopped working AGAIN just this week. Total BS.

OMG, the same writer put like half these games on the 1st list, and again mentions Last Guardian twice like in the last article, and there's more repeats like Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain, Bioshock 2... I think he wrote this article at the last minute too

I'm eagerly waiting for all the big name titles, but I'm also hoping the Sparkster (Rocket Knight) revival is good as well as Project Needlemouse (new Sonic 2D game).

I grew up with those 2 franchises,

    Hrmm

    My List

    Final Fantasy 13
As if I need to say why this one is important to RPG fans.

    God of War 3
As important to brutal brawler fans as FF13 is to RPG fans

    Heavy Rain
A game filled with quicktime events? Count me in, I like playing my movies.

    M.A.G
Imagine MW2 cept twenty times as many players

    Last Guardian
I never played Ico or Shadow, so this should be interesting

Red Faction 4 (Sure they'll make one.. with less enforcers please)
The multiplayer was fun on RFG, I hope they do come out with a sequel later in the year.

    Dead Rising 2
The first next gen game I ever owned and the toughest, I hate escort missions but I love killin zombies

    Alan Wake
Probably the only X-Box 360 game ill get this year

    Lost Planet 2
I liked the first one too.. kind of had an old school approach with actual levels, straight forward and fun.. though the mech combat could of been a bit deeper

    Dark Siders
Dont know much about this but then again it is the four horsemen, right?

    Dante's Inferno
Had to read this in high school, abandon all hope ye who enter here.. also the slogan for walmart

    Bioshock 2
If the story telling and combat is as awesome and creative as it was in Bioshock, then count me in.. hurray for multiplayer

yeah gettin all these for PS3 cept for Alan

I think Bungie's gonna remind their critics why Halo became a big name when Reach comes out. The Halo series is still fun and I have faith that they will more than keep up with the competition. Bungie isn't owned by Microsoft anymore, they can't tell 'em what to do. Bungie is making their own design choices and Halo: Reach will feel fresher and more original than Halo 3. And I love Halo 3. Anyone else getting on the multi-player beta on day one? P.S.: crossing my fingers for firefight with matchmaking.
