What You Need To Know

• The Everio is a very compact camcorder, and it's one of the smallest we've reviewed.
• It measures about 2" thick and 4" wide.
• With a 2.7" LCD screen, this camcorder easily fits in the palm of your hand.
• The design was nicely functional for its small size.
• The button layout was very simple without any clutter or confusion.
• The menu buttons are touch sensitive and are located below the LCD, so there's no touch screen.
• The menu navigation was easy with the new laser touch operation bar next to the screen.
• The motion is similar to screen swiping on a touch screen.
• Overall, the design was practical and simple to use.
• The features for one touch YouTube uploads, face detection and large hard drive storage held up well.
• The 60 gig hard drive can record up to 6 hours of footage at the highest quality video setting and 27 hours on the lowest.
• The face detection feature tracks subjects really well, so they stay in focus as they move around.
• The one touch exports to YouTube or DVD is nothing we haven't seen before.
• Video quality wise, this camera wasn't the best we've seen.
• In low light situations, we got a lot of artifacts and noise.
• It also had a hard time with the slow auto focus.
• The video came out better in daylight, but it's still not the best.
• Colors were bright but the details weren't the sharpest.
• Overall, we weren't very impressed, despite the mind boggling storage capacity.

Price

• $425 (How do we rate gadgets?)

Rating

• Don't Buy.
• Video quality is top priority when it comes to camcorders and this didn't impress us.
• Instead, go with the Sony HDR CX100: though it has less storage, the video quality is better and it's a little cheaper.
