Tony Hawk: Ride

Activision's second major peripheral launch of the holiday season was Tony Hawk: Ride. Though yesterday I wrote about why Tony Hawk: Ride was a philosophical misstep from the very beginning, consumers have the ultimate say as tastemakers. The NPD Group has released the official sales numbers for November and Tony Hawk: Ride's initial numbers are in: 114,000 copies.

Tony Hawk: Ride sold 114,000 across all platforms, but the NPD Group would not release a platform-by-platform breakdown, so it's unclear where the majority of sales went.

Ubisoft found surprising success on Wii when launching its Wii Fit-centric snowboarding title, Shaun White Snowboarding, and even released a sequel as a Wii exclusive this past fall.

Comparatively, DJ Hero 123,000 copies in the first month.

I've contacted Activision for comment on Tony Hawk: Ride's first-month sales. Stay tuned.

Maybe you miss the point. My kids LOVE this game. They play on Wii. Maybe it's not for hardcore kill people gamers.

A unified sigh of disapointment was heard nationwide Christmas Morning as thousands of unsuspecting children opened their presents from Santa only to find Tony Hawk: Ride awaiting them. A record number of hate mail and letter bombs have been overnighted to the North Pole in response. When asked, parents could only say,"I thought Tony Hawk made good videogames."

Following the Wii's success with motion sensing everybody thinks it's cool to take a half assed game, slap on motion sensing controls then say " Yeah the idiots will buy and make us all rich, now we just need something for the next quarter". Didn't Tony Hawk retire from professional skating years ago, then he should follow suit & retire his name from the entire video game industry, come on dude do you really need the money?

I dunno, I can see some 8 years olds going nuts on this thing, right up until they bust their $#@ on it, clock their head on the coffee table, trash the Christmas tree and send the board sailing through Dad's big screen. You know it's gonna happen. As an 8 year old though, I might think it's awesome...for at least 10 minutes...and who cares really, I probably didn't pay for it since it arrived via Sleigh Express.

A lot of ill-informed parents now have this ill-concieved tragedy waiting under the Christmas tree for their poor, unsuspecting children. The real backlash with this game will be evident on or about the 26th of December, when retailers like Gamestop get stuck with 100,000 slightly used copies of this game that they'll never be able to unload. Gamestop should announce RIGHT NOW that they won't be buying these back.

They should have dropped Tony Hawk after the holidays, they had too much competition from Oct to now. We had Uncharted2, L4D2, Demon Souls, Assassins Creed2, Dragon Age, Modern Warfare2.
Those are now in most people's libraries now. C'mon what sounds cooler MW2 or T.H.?
But maybe they had no choice but to cause M.A.G. hits in Jan.

That's not good for Tony Hawk. A lot of people are busy with Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2.

So much for what Morgan said. lol "If your kids want it this holiday season, don't do it. Have a heart." I bet they'll do it anyway.

I get rid of consoles to avoid cludder. I can't imagine having all those AND stashing a buttload of peripheals in the house.

All I have to say to those people is "You'll be trading it in quickly and you'll be out $120." Well done. Ultra fail.

FAIL!!!!!!!! I think we have had enough periphials! How bout spending money on trying to create original content without gimmicks? Why didnt they just make tony hawk ride for Natal and ditch the fake skate board? Natal doesnt require periphials and thus saves the 3rd party money on losses through periphials. FAIL.. they just had to try and make a piece of crap and shove it down our throats for the holidays so they can show a profit for the holiday season....well i hope this is a wake up call and you can shove your skin flute hero where the sun doesn't shine already....ORIGINAL GAMES!!! Not some sequel or prequel to some crap that was cool in like the early to mid 90s,,,ORIGINAL GAMES with...ORIGINAL and unique GAME PLAY!!!! SPEND MONEY ON THIS!!! Look at Japan...Look at KONAMI!!! They are crapping out so much ORIGINAL CONTENT that they don't know what to do with it... you guys just rely on statistics of what you think kids like....WE LIKE ORIGINAL GAMES...males 16-30 like...ORIGINAL GAMES...and FPS lol...

Why would anyone buy tony hawk ride? I mean yea it was a neat idea, but I could tell at the e3 preview demos that it was going to be complete crap. So sorry for all those who bought it.
