John Malkovich is the latest name to get dropped into the boiling cauldron of bizarre innuendo and wishful thinking that is the Spider-Man 4 rumor mill. These stories just get wackier and wackier to a point where I'm sure we'll soon be thinking that Spidey will be taking on a team of Carnage, Hydro-Man, The Kangaroo, and the bitter ghost of Uncle Ben in an epic four-on-one battle on the tip of the Empire State Building.
Movieline is reporting that none other than respected actor, Malkovich is in negotiations to play top tier Spider-Man villain, The Vulture. (Okay, maybe the lamest of the top tier, but top tier, nonetheless.) He would be taking on the role of Adrian Toomes, an aged businessman who develops a flight harness and suit which not only allows him to fly, but gives him enhanced strength, and supposedly enhances his lifespan. (Not too sure about that last one, though.)
Oh wait, that's not even the best part! Remember the rumor about Anne Hathaway being in negotiations for a role in the film? (Which everyone assumed would be The Black Cat.) Well, according to this rumor, she is still on board to play Spidey's romance/nemesis, Felicia Hardy (Black Cat's alias.) However, Felicia's alter-ego will be a NEW character altogether. Enter The Vulturess! Not even the slightest detail about the character has been revealed, but apparently, this is the character Anne Hathaway will portray.
I suppose we could speculate that, similar to The Black Cat's origin where her father was a famous cat burglar whose footsteps she followed, the same might apply in this scenario. Malkovich's Toomes may be Felicia's father who influences her to become a female version of...whatever the hell he was supposed to have been.
Oh, but what about The Lizard? He's been teased for a few films at this point. Dylan Baker who played Curt Connors/The Lizard has indeed signed on to the film and it should be a lock, right? "Sorry, maybe next time." Apparently the studio bigwigs are not comfortable with villains lacking a "human face." Also, the idea of not having another big name to go up on that marquee next to Tobey Maguire could also not be to their liking. I'm sure fans will totally understand, right? Who needs GOOD villains anyway? /sarcasm
Even if the odd concept about Hathaway as "Vulturess" is false, this still just seems wrong. While the character of The Vulture would likely have a reinvention in looks and origin from the "Frank Perdue in green S&M gear" of the original comic look, it just comes across as pretty lame that The Vulture would seriously be the best they could conjure.
Whatever. It's a Spider-Man 4 rumor, so I wouldn't put too much into its validity.

It was that thinking that made Venom Suck ass in SM3.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Malkovich originally rumored to play the Green Goblin in the first movie? If he turned down the role of Spider-Man's greatest enemy, why would he want to play a third-tier villain like the Vulture? Just put the Lizard in Spidey 4 and be done with it.

Just as long as they bring back Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin. Then it would all make sooooooooooo much sense. In Raimi-tarded wacky land sorta way. Maybe they could get Ryan Reynolds to be Carnage too. Cause I could believe that more.
Am I alone in thinking that Spider-Man 4 will be so far out there it might actually be worse than 3? I mean who do they get to write the script and cast these movies?!?!?! 12 year olds?!?!?

I just don't get it. You could have a genuinely compelling story between Peter & Felicia sharing an affair between a naughty cat burglar and our friendly neighborhood wall crawler maybe with a storyline featuring her stealing from the likes of Tombstone or The Kingpin and having Peter torn between his feelings for her and turning her in to the authorities all the while battling the Tombstone's or Kingpin's Henchmen hunting them both down. This need to keep overpopulating sequels was the very thing that killed the Batman franchise for so long. If anything they need to concentrate on a phenomenal story above all and maybe give this franchise a rest for at least five years and then giving the reigns to a new director and cast ala James Bond. When will Hollywood learn that less is more and that sometimes you have to let fans WANT and yearn for see a sequel. Because after the lackluster SM3 I can do without Spidey for a long while if they have more of the same.

I shoot white goo from my body too...what makes him so special?

This can't be true. It's SOOOOOO bad that it cannot be true. Anne Hathaway?! REALLY?!?!?. She has no business in a movie like this. John Malcovich is awesome though, and casting him as the vulture does sounds pretty cool. but The Vulture is LAME as hell anyways. What the hell happened to the Lizard? Or Even Morbius for that matter.
This better be a joke.

John Malkovich as the vulture would be awesome. Also lets pretend spiderman 3 never happened and get a like badass body builder or something to play venom, not some dude from that 70s show... who made that call? HE DIDN'T EVEN SAY WE ARE VENOM! you don't introduce venom without him introducing himself! how dare you, plus his voice was all wussy and it just didn't work for me, I only saw that movie once and that was enough. 2007 was disappointing for me. Resident evil 3 wasn't that good at all (worst wesker portrayal), Halloween remake ( stay away from legends Rob!, you turned Mike into a lame Jason like Maury case gone wrong!), and of course Spiderman 3.

Next we'll have Kurtwood Smith as Hammerhead, Steven Seagal as Puma, Nicholas Cage as Mysterio, and of course Samuel L Jackson as Tombstone.

Wow....that would top Spider-Man 3 on the ol' Epicfailometer.
No one messes with my Black cat and gets away with it!

Of all the rumors, these are the most \"I-sure-hope-not\" of all of them.
That being said, they'll probably end up being true :/

It's one thing to have rumors to fill up the hype meter, it's another thing to have this many rumors. At this point, I think it's only going to hurt the movie more than help.
BONERJAM
These rumors or so out of hand and I choose not to believe any of them but I do have to say that Malkovich fits that role pretty well.
