Today should be just a little bit brighter for fans of Sega’s Yakuza series, as the fourth installment in the acclaimed series, Yakuza 3, will finally be released in the US and the UK in March 2010.
Sega assistant community manager Aaron Webber posted the news over at the Official PlayStation Blog, putting an official end to the yearlong swirl of rumor, speculation and denials regarding the game possibly being released outside of Japan. And, well, now it's coming.
While I'm sure this news will please many a Yakuza fan, Sega aren't helping themselves at all by releasing it the same month as two juggernaut games, Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III. I'm sure the Yakuza fan base will be pleased to see Yakuza 3 on store shelves, but when its sitting next to FFXIII and GoWIII, it could make pulling the trigger on buying it a bit harder. Not only that, the series hasn't been a big seller for Sega in the past, and this release window isn't going to help. I guess we'll find out in a few months.
Here is the game's new teaser trailer:
Sega is currently developing Yakuza 4 as well, and the game will be released in Japan in spring 2010.
Am I wrong in thinking that March is not the smartest of release windows for Yakuza 3? Don't you think it will just get buried by FFXIII and GoWIII?

im a big fan of the first game for the ps2 and cant wait to get my bloody knuckles on the third installment. the combat system and storyline were two of the greatest highlights of the original, and this game looks to maintain those elements.

I think a Q2 release would help them out much more. Gran turismo is due out close to that time as well and who knows what else might rear it's head for a Q1 release

Hey if somebody's played the import of this game and understood it, could they tell me if I need to know some major backstory to play this game properly and if so point me in the direction of where I could maybe find that backstory?

Look at the bright spot - with all the great Q1 games, we'll have plenty to play during the slow summer...
...though I'm still catching up from the onslaught of this year and late 2008.

This series has interested me before and I wondered if Yakuza 3 would come to the US and now we have the good news. As for March games, it looks like in 2010 that March is the new November. With games like FFXIII, God of War 3, and Gran Turismo 5, March is shaping up to be the new mega-month while at the same time giving us some time to save up money for these triple A titles.

Finally my reason to buy a Ps3 is here, god knows it took them long enough to announce it.

I'm much more interested in Yakuza 3 than either FF13 or God of War III. It's a niche series anyway. Those who want the game will buy it, no matter the month it's released.

huh!!

Can't we get all 3? :)

The straight up Yakuza fans will buy it regardless of the other games because well, they love it. But everybody else will jusy buy GoD3 (like me) or FFXIII.
sarid
people will buy this game regardless of gow3 or ffwhateverthenumberis now because it comes down to if you like beat-em-up games or not

hey as long as Yakuza 3 is released here in NA. . .it doesnt matter what month it'll be released.
FINALLY! I've played the japanese demo of this game. . .even though I don't understand much what the characters are saying, it was a fun beat 'em up game.
