We didn't like Tony Hawk: Ride. Most people didn't, actually. Tony Hawk: Ride didn't review well, something the actual rider was paying attention to. Fans were asking Hawk about the response to Tony Hawk: Ride on Twitter -- and he eventually responded back.
"Most snarky critics had their minds set before ever seeing/playing the game," said Hawk. "I'm proud of what we created; it's innovative, responsive & fun."
Hawk also pointed to an "objective" review from the Associated Press written by someone who "actually took the time & learned how to play."

i like how he says the game is responsive. it has horrible lag time between everything as well as how hard it is to do a grab because of the lack of response by the boards censors

It's safe to say Tony Hawk had tapped this well dry four games ago. Why would he then be suprised to come up with dirt? Innovation should be made in the gameplay experience not in gawdy peripherals. Time to either cut your losses or make a game that can stand up to the likes of the Skate franchise.

SSX Tricky rendered Tony Hawk games useless for me. I'd rather play my last gen copy of SSX 3 than boot up another skateboard game.

Yokoi thought the virtual boy was awesome too.

hey tony hawk guess what, your game is horrid. only 3 hours long and its not very innovative at all. (oh yea cool im gonna stand on a board and move it a couple of inches in each direction to do tricks) ooo how fun... video games are suppose to be something better than this horrible creation. if you want to skateboard then go buy a skateboard and go do it, if you wanna play video games pick up a controller and play it... the end. x-play nailed it 1 out of 5 and i agree.
\"Most snarky critics had their minds set before ever seeing/playing the game,\" said Hawk. \"I'm proud of what we created; it's innovative, responsive & fun.\"
No they didn't have their minds set before playing it. They gave the game this rating after playing it and seeing how not fun it really is. please stop making tony hawk games (or at least make it so i can play it with a controller if i choose).

You did a 900 ten years ago, just be happy with that

Blame it on Activision; they never gave a crap about the game. Tony Hawk should be mad at Activision not the critics.

Small surprise that Tony Hawk is unimpressed with the reveiws of his latest game and not-entirely thought out peripheral. Thats what happens when one puts out a game that only the hardest core fan or uninformed grandparent / soccer mom will buy. Gameplay of the newest iteration aside, the Tony Hawk games have been slowing down (considerably) since THUG. Its a fact.
The trend has run its course Tony. You made millions with it. Now let it die, if not with dignity, at least without a painful whimper.

If Tony Hawk doesn't like the reviews, he should've made a good game. It's just that simple: good game=good reviews.
gamer3117
no offense but every tony hawk game after tony hawk pro skater 2 has sucked he's just upset because the SKATE franchise has destroyed his franchise due to SKATE's better gameplay and because it applys more to actual skaters due to its controls and because it's not just a simple button masher like all other tony hawk games the tony hawk franchise needs to stop they all suck Skate is the only good skateborading game out their that is fun and inventive
give it up tony hawk GIVE IT UP UR GAME SUCKED

I would like to hereby start a motion for all of humanity that the word \"snarky\" should be immediately obliterated from our collective vocabulary forever. Also would like to add the corollary that the person or persons responsible for coining this word MUST be hunted down and exploded immediately and without trial. All in favor?

Have not tried it (as I'm willing to bet nearly everyone commenting on this board has not either), so I am not qualified to comment on whether or not it was responsive or good. I find it funny that so many of you think you are qualified.
That said, I will hand it to Tony and his team for actually trying something new and innovative. It was a bold move with alot of risks, largest of all being the necessity for people to drop a considerable amount of money to play a new TH game, followed closely by the need to learn all the ins and outs of a completely new control system. From everything I've read and seen, it really seems like something you'd have to put in the time and effort to get used to how it controls and moves to perfect it. I won't count that as a mistake, because it really isn't possible to make a new peice of machinery like that super friendly to new-comers. The Wii spoiled us in this way, and this is definitely not a Wii. Unfortunately, what I'm seeing is reviewers who got on the board, tried the tricks, and quickly lost patience with learning all the finer points of the controls.
Point being, I believe that if someone really got on it, took the time and effort to perfect the control scheme (which unfortunately for Tony, seems to take more patience and interest than many people are willing to spare), it could be a fairly rewarding and fun experience. Yes, you could go buy a real skateboard for alot cheaper, but chances are the vast majority of you could never ever ever go out in real life and pull all the tricks that you can on TH:R, at least not without breaking yourself in half. So for those who want to pull 20 ft of air on a half pipe, or grind down a 50 ft rail sometime during this lifetime, there are videogames, and TH:R is about as close to an authentic experience any of us will get, so long as we can put up with a \"little\" bit of physical exhertion...
Warrior567
the reviewers didn't learn to play it because activision only gave them an hour to review it.
bohalloran95
Did he play the game, or did he just put his name on it. thumbs up for he had nothing to do with it at all, down if he was REALLY involed, not just he played a beta (which they shipped instead of the game)
RockieOllie
It's a game that is so hideous that only it's mother could love
the_azure_knight
Tony Hawk your game fails get over it
river_tron
The fact that he threw out the \"snarky critics\" and the \"made up their minds before they tried it\" lines demonstrate that he is indeed butt-hurt and defensive about the reviews. That's what happens when you have a league of butt-kissers following you around saying everything you do is awesome, instead of being honest. I'm sure it looked great on paper, but they really should've seen this coming.
There should be a wave of firings all around for this poorly thought out atrocity of a game AND peripheral. Go back to the basics Tony. Re-trace your steps and and re discover why everyone fell in love with your game in the first place.
It would've killed in the 80's though, that's for sure.

I lost interest as soon as it took me five minutes to beat Tony Hawk Project 8. LONG LIVE TONY HAWK PRO SKATER 1 lol thats the best skating game, american wasteland was good too
PretentiousName01
The last Tony hawk game I played had a number on the end. I was looking forward to this one. Until I heard you can only play it w/ the skateboard. I wrote it off then, seems I am better for it.
I don't know how to skateboard, I know how to play games. I like playing games, I don't like breaking my neck, a lamp, or my wallet.
icaptawesomei
I'm sorry but when the whole gaming community expresses their dislike for your game, you really have no ground to say their wrong in any matter. Good job for trying a new thing but there should have been testers that weren't professional skateboarders. Most sites are giving it poor scores and that's from Users playing the game not just critics.
