EA Not Commenting On Dead Space 2, 3 Speculation

Good news "horror in space" fans! Dante’s Inferno developer Visceral Games has (unsurprisingly) announced that a sequel to their 2008 sci-fi gore-fest Dead Space is currently in the works for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Dead Space 2 executive producer Steve Papoutsis said in a statement:

"We're thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac's journey. The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of necromorphs that need killing! In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you."

The official announcement also mentioned “taking the fight to the Necromorphs,” which also seems to suggest we could see Isaac visiting some less than hospitable terrestrial environs during the course of his latest bloody adventure, perhaps even a Necromorph home planet. That's my interpretation/hope anyway.

What kinds of gameplay/weapons/settings are you hoping to see in Dead Space 2?

There is a couple things i would love to have in Dead Space 2. First off, co-op. That would be sweet wrecking necromorphs with a friend. And like a survival mode, kinda like Gears 2. Fighting off waves and waves of necromorphs would prolly be the funnest thing in the world. i just need to finish the first one :)

I think a lot of gamers slept on this game. Where games like FEAR and RE5 failed to deliver on the suspense, horror, and scares, Dead Space had me gritting my teeth as I blasted the crap out of those monsters. I liked the way the lighting tended to go dark and power was lost, then suddenly a freeking monster came rushing you from the shadows. I'm definitely on board from the 2nd installment. Maybe they'll bring some multiplayer along this time.

I find myself wondering if they'll add multiplayer to the sequel. I recall how some reviewers wished for some sort of co op or multiplayer in the original. Personally, I thought that this gameplay mode would have seemed inconsistent with the bleak, desolate game play of the single player experience.

looks sweet, but \"taking the fight to the necromorphs\" says one thing only to me; MILITARY ISSUE DISMEMBERMENT WEAPONS- as in sleek, non-improvised awesomeness

Now the \"Taking the fight to the Necromorphs\" comment kind of worries me. Could this turn in the direction of Lost Planet? It kind of seems like it. It may be a bit more gory and more action packed, but that comment kind of makes me wonder...

gah, I bought Dead Space on Black Friday for 10$ and still haven't played it since I also got Fallout 3 GOTY, my boss let me borrow Bioshock, and I bought MW2 and L4D2 when they came out.

Only Isaac can contain the infection? What about Nate, Weller, and Lexine from Extraction? They survived too. ...At least, I'm pretty sure they did...

I'd like to see a prison-like setting or insane asylum you escape from at the beginning, since there's probably no way Isaac was taken seriously about what happened on the Ishimura. Visiting more planets would be cool too. Imagine if you could travel to Jupiter, Neptune, or heck, even a neutron star! I don't know why you would go to such places, but maybe they could have extra bosses or secret Necromorphs to encounter on ships stationed there.

Finally!! I have been waiting forever for them to announce this. The first was probably the first video game ever to actually scare me and Im not talking about little startling moments where something would jump out at you. I mean full on running for my life scared.

I second what black1999 said- I wouldn't mind seeing that 'plasma chainsaw' or whatever it was, from 'Dead Space:Downfall'.

I would love to see a sequel actually pick up where you left off in the original game. In other words... whatever items I had after finishing the first one, I get to keep when starting the 2nd one. I can't think of any games that have done this, but I'm sure they're out there.

Awesome!! Can't wait for this one.. I don't know of any new weapons I want at the moment, but I know I don't want any empty nodes where you upgrade.
