EA Not Commenting On Dead Space 2, 3 Speculation

Good news "horror in space" fans! Dante’s Inferno developer Visceral Games has (unsurprisingly) announced that a sequel to their 2008 sci-fi gore-fest Dead Space is currently in the works for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Dead Space 2 executive producer Steve Papoutsis said in a statement:

"We're thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac's journey. The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of necromorphs that need killing! In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you."

The official announcement also mentioned “taking the fight to the Necromorphs,” which also seems to suggest we could see Isaac visiting some less than hospitable terrestrial environs during the course of his latest bloody adventure, perhaps even a Necromorph home planet. That's my interpretation/hope anyway.

What kinds of gameplay/weapons/settings are you hoping to see in Dead Space 2?

I really liked that Isaac never really said anything in the first game. I don't like it when a main char. opens his mouth and says things that make me hate him. I am just a fan of a silent type. I actually thought it would have been way scarier if there weren't any other people helping him on the ishimura, if it was just a lone engineer against a whole ship full of necromorphs. that's just me though. I am excited for this game though, either way I wanna get back to some alien undead ass kickin.

I would like to see some kind of defensive weapon, like a shield generator or something, or maybe some advanced melee options, more than just punch or stomp. Ya know just something for when those necros get a little to close for comfort.
I'm totally stoked for this one though! The original is still one of my fav games of all time.

Kick ass!! I really liked Dead Space and thought it was a fresh new take on the survival horror genre. I'll be looking forward to Dead Space 2.

I'm very excited for this game. Hopefully they'll have better characters for Dead Space 2. Extraction had really good character development, something the first lacked. I also hope to see the three survivors from Extraction make an appearance.

Well, I'm quite glad to hear that good old quiet Isaace Clark will be coming back to continue the fight. The main reason why is because I didn't believe for one second

/Spoiler/ that necromorph Nicole killed him. /Spoiler End/

I honestly hope that the creators for the sequel take to heart the criticisms of the latter game. Such elements as a wider variety of necromorphs, Isaac Clarke being a little more communicative, and possibly a few less overpowering weaponry would do some good. Still, even if they can't deliver on such things, I will be content with the sequel if it can match the caliber of its predecessor.

Please not a lot of underground areas! Gears 2 did it well but too much of it will probably make the sequel back step and mimicking Gears is too popular especially for a survival horror/action title 1-2 years after the original and Gears 2.The only idea from Gears that could help this title is a bigger number of bigger enemies with more creative set pieces. The first game either had you go one on one with a boss or run around the environment until you figure out the boss' pattern. Blowing up the planet from the inside out also seems too popular. How could a bunch of nukes detonating on the surface of the planet or an asteroid wipe out all life on Earth but not an alien planet or the asteroid itself? If the majority of the weapons in the first game were really just mining tools, then the concept artists can go just about anywhere they want and it would still be believable and accepted. More conventional weapons with the futuristic dash in an action scene with a large amount of enemies would probably fair well with the audience (grenade/rocket launcher, shotguns, prototype-laser pistols or rifles). Weapons that are for outdoor combat will make the sequel shine since close quarters combat was the focus of the first.

All I hope to see is more imagination with the Necromorphs. All variations in the original were great but fighting three beefed-up versions of the same creature is something I thought we had learned not to do. Honestly, how hard is it to pop a copy of The Thing and all other movies dealing with the same subject for inspiration. Still a day one buy for me.
