Golfer and alleged philanderer Tiger Woods seems to be having a pretty lousy holiday season, what with smashing up his Escalade and the troops of chicks coming out of the woodwork accusing him of adultery, but there's a silver-lining to his personal clouds. For now, both his wife and his corporate sponsors are standing by him.
Electronic Arts, the game company behind the massively successful Tiger Woods PGA Tour series of video games, has issued the following statement to media outlets:
"Our strong relationship with Tiger for more than a decade remains unchanged. We respect Tiger's privacy, we wish him a fast recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on the golf course."
While I think everyone deserves a second chance, I can't help but think EA is missing a golden opportunity here -- the chance to launch a new PGA series: John Daly PGA Tour.
Daly, in case you're not hip on current golfers, John is the Yin to Tiger's Yang. Where Woods is disciplined, practiced, neat and controlled, Daly is sloppy, sometimes-drunk, disorderly and fat. He's like Rodney Dangerfield in CaddyShack, except he's really alive -- and he plays golf really well when he decides to. He constantly battles alcohol, gambling addiction and toxic relationships with floozies. In short: You wouldn't see Daly apologizing for affairs -- he's the kind of dude that would be proud of it. I think the "Career Mode" of Daly PGA Tour 11, where The Lion is constantly suspended and reinstated into the PGA Tour, would be the first example of a golf game having a viable plot!

The only thing the whole Tiger fiasco proves to me is that even a pro athlete in a car cannot outrun/escape the wrath of an angry swede dame. As for EA, they should incorporate a \"trophy bride\" aspect to the career mode.
And did you know that he always refers to himself in the third person as \"Woody\"?

Whoa people! The reason Tiger is a huge deal nowadays is b/c he was the golden boy of athletes. Now he is a cheating husband. Now back to what I was going to say, of course EA is going to stick by Tiger, Would you go pick up a copy of Steve Stricker PGA Tour 11? I didn't think so...

I love golf and played a lot till I broke my wrist and had to have surgery. Anyway, as far as this goes, I think that it is being blown up. He is a normal guy who is just really good at golf. I think he should be left alone so he and his family can work through this. As far as EA goes I see no reason for them to drop him, I don't think it would reflect badly on them, I mean actors do thing like this all the time and they still get work and sponsor companies so let it go. I also agree with one other who posted on this subject earlier.... dress him up in your brand and let him do the interviews.

MAKE A BETTER GAME - I don't care if EA stands behind Tiger with his pants down, the graphics in Tiger Woods games have not improved in years. Look at Madden! Do that in your golf game!! Can't believe I wasted money on Tiger10.

The media reports on anything that'll make them more money, and really the only person that knows about Tiger's personal life is Tiger himself. As far as people standing by him goes, they have a right to do that because again the media is the media. Main difference now is that their latest celebrity target is Tiger Woods. If anything, the media is only making their target celebrities more famous but it'd be nice if the media left people alone, even though it'll never happen because in the media's eyes controversy creates money. That's how the media treats things, even with video games. It's not ethical but the media does what they do unfortunately.

I understand tiger has up to this point had a near flawless image... but lets face it. In todays society cheating isn't as big of a deal as it used to be. It wont affect his play and he will still be a winner for a long time to come. If i were any of his sponsors i wouldn't drop him either as a matter a fact i would pay him more to wear a shirt or hat of mine during the coming interviews... You know they are goin to be EVERYWHERE!
