We're all a few pounds heavier as a result of the Thanksgiving feasting, but that didn't stop us from straggling into the studio to discuss the latest gaming news and a little Wii game people are talking about, New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It's supposed to be pretty good, so Adam Sessler, myself, Abbie Heppe and Rob Manuel hopped into the Feedback recording studio to talk about all this and more.
Here's what the crew talked about on this week's Feedback:
- Ubisoft announced Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, prompting yours truly to come to the defense of one of 2008's best games (even if the rest of the crew disagrees with me!)
- There was another game announcement, too: Medal of Honor. Electronic Arts confirmed rumors that it's taking the series to modern day, but we have some fears about it.
- We're seeing a serious commitment from Ubisoft behind Project Natal and Sony's motion controller, but what kinds of games will we see and which ones will be ports?
- Rob reviewed New Super Mario Bros. Wii for us and we try to come to grasp about what works and doesn't work in Nintendo's multiplayer-driven nostalgia-fueled new game.
Feedback, forcing Adam to make obscure references since 1776. Help him and subscribe.

They bring up a good point about Nintendo forcing motion controls into their new games. Obviously the motion controls were shoehorned into New Super Mario Bros, and it is definitely a scary thought that the next Zelda or the next Metroid may suffer as a result this. The Wii is a very weird console, and I think that Nintendo definitely feels obligated to utilize all the bells and whistles of it. It's the same with the DS. There is absolutely no reason why I should have to blow into my DS' microphone to play certain games. However, it is a much bigger problem with the Wii.
Obviously the problem stems from the type of hardware the Wii has, and I still believe that Nintendo made some very bad choices in how they designed the core hardware of the Wii. It should have had much more horsepower, and an actual game controller. The Wii remote is only half a controller, because there is simply no way to play a modern style game without a nunchuck. Not only that, but Nintendo anticipated the concept of motion controls affecting how people designed games much more than it actually did. The only Wii games I have ever played that actually benefited from motion controls were Metroid Prime 3 and Resident Evil 4. As a result, Nintendo feels that if anyone should be using all the Wii's capabilities, it's them.

I dont know if anyone's already told her but abbie really needs to get that mic closer to her face. There's sometimes when i cant hear her sexy voice at all.

BTW, Forgot to mention - I had to go all the way to page 2 of the Feed to get this - Feedback(one of the MOST relevant news articles that come through The Feed) should be a little more prominient

I dig Adam's obscure references.
I also would like to hop on the Abbie fanboy bandwagon.

I have bin confused recently about some games that I haven't heard from for a while such as ff versus xiii, LA noire, the agency, and 8days. And I haven't bin able to find any news about these games at all. Have these games bin cancelled or posponed.

I personally think New Super Mario Bros Wii is a sweet game. The propeller suit is awesome (including motion control for it), the level designs are consistently challenging, but not cheap and the Bowser battle at the end is just epic. While I agree it's not perfect, it definitely gets the nod for one of the best platformers Mario has been in. I would rank it #3, with #1 for Super Mario Bros 3 and #2 for Super Mario World. Now it's just a matter of time if a sequel will be published for it...

On the topic of motion controls, I feel that your feelings that Natal will be more of a casual piece of hardware is correct. The ideal of scrolling through Netflix with my hands and voice is exciting to me. However, when it comes to games I am having trouble seeing a way that it will blend well with the 360 controller. A game using one or the other seems like a good idea, but using them both at once just seems to me like a difficult task. Hopefully I am wrong, but at this point I really don't know what to expect.

Let me start off by saying that I truely enjoy watching the show. You guy do a great job of making a fun, interesting, and enlightening show.
One arguement that I would make is that natal has more potential to cater to the hardcore player than I think its getting credit for. Natal could be used as more of a supliment to the standered controler rather that a replacement. It could be used to give hand signals to command party members or to navigate menus and even toggle differant options. So while I'm sure there will be a plethera of casual \"party\" games it also has the potential of creating new and refreshing control methods for the more \"hardcore\" games out there.
Thank you for making these show I look forward to watching next week.

Good stuff! I learn something new non gaming related every feedback thanks to my obsession to find out what Adams obscure references are every week, haha.
