Mirror's Edge

According to Electronic Arts' CEO John Riccitiello, first-person free-running action game Mirror's Edge deserves a sequel.

"We're still working through things like how to best deal with Mirror's Edge 2," Riccitiello told Kotaku. "There are some things we learned about that [first] game. It was, I think, a massively innovative product. To be honest with you, I think it's a game that deserves to come back."

Riccitiello said a potential Mirror's Edge 2 could go in two different directions.

"You could say: This thing needs to be more traditional. It's first-person game. There's a lot of successful FPS products out there that do really well. We could move in that direction... Or [you could say]: This was never about guns. It was about its stark originality. Maybe we can back away from some of those [older] things… and emphasize the smooth play and puzzles and move it toward, if you will, a Portal. "

So, what do you guys think about a Mirror's Edge sequel -- would you want to see a traditional shooter set in the Mirror's Edge world, or a game that emphasizes some of the more original aspects of the game? Personally, I'd be more interested in playing a game that focuses on puzzles and free-running/climbing with a heavy dose of stealth. In fact, if it were up to me, I would axe all combat from the game and make players totally dependent on speed and brains.

i agree with these people if i have to play one more tacky shooter ill pull my hair out im so excited to get my hands on a mirrors edge two i think it would be a huge waste of money and fan power to make it a shooter

I completely agree with Weaponofcho1ce. It's a lot cooler and more satisfying to use your freerunning than just shooting up the place, but that doesn't mean that you should get rid of the shooting aspects. As long as they keep it mostly about the freerunning and make it still possible to go through without firing a single shot, it'll keep everyone happy.

I'd absolutely love to see a Mirror's Edge 2, but only if it they toned the gunplay way down--just like most of the people here, it seems. Mostly I'm just adding my name to the list, but yeah, ME2 with heavy emphasis on running and puzzling would be fantastic.

I think Mirror's Edge was a near perfect game (my only complaint being how short it was) and for that reason - keep everything! I am a freerunner and hardcore FPS gamer and Mirror's Edge made me druel. From the vivid colors to the smooth movements - I love every bit of it.
Keep the fighting, keep the freerunning (maybe a little more emphasis on freerunning)

Idk about you guys, but i loved everything about this game. i loved how you could choose wether or not to use weapons, and i loved the freerunning. the aiming was a little wonky, but the combat is perfectly excecuted. whoever wants this in third person... idk, you just missed the point of the game. it gives you the THRILL of looking down at your feet and seeing the entire city below. the entire effect of the game would be lost in third person.

also, i dont know what you're talking about when it comes to being unforgiving. i flew through the game on the hardest difficulty with no problem, i 've played it through over and over and over, and i cant get enough of it.everything but the shooting is executed flawlessly, and lets be honest, running up a wall to spin kick and disarm a guy is much cooler than just clusterFing with smgs and assault rifles anyway.

I think they should keep it the way it was maybe make it longer and add more combat moves. But I don't think a runner should hide in the dark and have stealth that wouldn't be running! SPOILER!!!! like when the police runners were chasing you that was so intense and freaky!!! END SPOILER!!! I think that you should do what you do best and run maybe add a few more combat moves and running moves. People who are complaining that it was too short should be quiet it was supposed to be short because each level had a speed run and a time trial or two. A big maybe is they could MAYBE add co-op. But they could add multiplayer think about it Mirror's Edge what you you had a Tag game mode where you were all runners and had to chase each other. Or like how splinter cell Double agent had the spies vs. the Cops. you could play cops vs. robbers. Or just tons of game types think aboout It!!!

Don't think first person shooter, think first person. Be clever.
All things that can be done in first person should be in sequel.

Pick up or manipulate objects for puzzles or temporary weapons.
Swing on hanging wires and ropes.
Awesome gadgets to aid in escaping and getting around.
    Peripheral vision anyone?

Keep gun play but it has to be a moving gun fight. Think in terms of the ability to accurately shot to the left while running straight or the ability to blindfire in a general direction while free running.

\"You could say: This thing needs to be more traditional. It's first-person game. There's a lot of successful FPS products out there that do really well. We could move in that direction...\"

    HELL NO!

Making it just another shooter would make Mirror's Edge...well, not Mirror's Edge. Guns was not what made the original special, but just the parkour and hand-to-hand combat. Just like the portal gun in Portal.

Instead, I would love more combat sequences that would focus on martial arts aspect. More of those freaky Project Icarus acrobats to fight would do just fine. Plus more available paths to take would be nice. An easier ending is what also I need: that server room at the end of the original took me 30 tries. I counted. Oh, and more crane jumping.

Maybe the most important of all: LOSE THE ELEVATORS!!!! They take too long!

I would love a sequel, but they should stick to the puzzles and free/running aspect of the game and keep the combat to about the same level as it was in the first game. Mirror's edge isn't about the combat, and it shouldn't be made that way for the second game. It would only ruin it in my opinion because i love the idea of a game based on free running. The game had me on my toes almost the whole time. And there were really only a couple levels that a gun actually helped. Keep CQC the same or improve, but i am highly against going towards FPS. That's what call of duty is for.

    We defiantly need a sequel.
Keep the original style, less guns.
    The first game was awesome.

THIS GAME SUCKED. I felt ripped off on the $10.00 I spent on it from target on Closeout. What a waste of a DVD.. NO PART 2

The first one was really fun if they make a sequel i am definitely buying it although i think it should b both stealth with puzzles and also include better controls for gun handling the first game had some flaws on holding weapons but was manageable . I think both elements should blend in into the game and still keep the same acrobatics or possibly add new ones :D

Why does it have to be one or the other? Give me Mirrors Edge with weapons...........AND give me more of the puzzles and great stuff \"innovation\" I loved about the game. Why not protect yourself from the other people shooting at you. You can't always run away from a fight people. It would be cool to shoot someone off the building and watch'em go splat.

i agree with him that it should be only puzlles and to depend on your speed and brain but i say that the fighting should still be in there when you get seen but take the guns out

First of all, this series deserves a equal. With all the Halo, Killzones,Battlefields, Metal of Honors, and CoD games......we need some more portal and Mirror's Edge type games. This type of game brings a nice change of pace to the First Person games.

I think the combat didn't fit that well with the gameplay. Aiming and shooting guns doesn't seem to mesh well with the fast-paced fluid nature of free-running. Maybe one route they could go would be to make the gun-play more cinematic to accommodate the free-running.

Also, I think she should have some electronics/gadgets at her disposal. I think that would enhance her level of coolness in the same way as free-running. It would be another way for a character to think outside of the box, just like free-running itself.

Lastly, the animation scenes were terrible for the gameplay and storyline. If they want to stick with cartoons, have an anime artist create fluid fast-paced animation. Otherwise, stick to the now typical in-game cinematics. One of the worst things for the narrative of games is having the cinematics break the flow or mindset you're aiming for with story and gameplay.

I have to agree with Stephen on this one. I would love to see them ditch the guns altogether. More running, jumping and puzzling.

Loved the first game, so original. I think limited combat, disarms and firearm use should remain in the game, but the focus should stay with free-running.

A true race mode, either co-op or online, should be incorporated as well. I don't mean time trials, I mean real time races between characters, where even limited combat could theoretically be used to slow the other player down.
