NCSoft's Blade and Soul is coming to North America at some future date. The debut trailer is embedded below.
I spent the last 11 minutes looking at this footage, and find it intriguing. Along with the (beautifully rendered) sword and sorcery battles, there are moments of platformer style play and even puzzles-- both are nice addition to the MMO-scape. Overall, it's so much better looking than, say, World of Warcraft, it's hardly even fair to compare them, but on the other hand, it's an MMO, and candy-coated graphics are not nearly enough to keep people playing for the hundreds of hours NCSoft would no doubt like to see. Plus there's something so culturally different about it that I don't want to play it. Like, I don't quite "get it" or something. Know what I mean? What do you think?

i mean the inter face is so interactive that i mean what is a dungen raid in wow omg its just suped up monsters and omygod all you can do is just stand there no traps no skill these is bringing styel and skill to mmos in stead of o all you would need is just the next best armor or what not just to serive in pvp or raids these brings in dogeing and puzzels and and all aurond skill to play if you are just going to bad mouth it when its clearly better then anything we have seen befor im sry but these makes wow a walk in the park and i am sry but you guys are underminding these games horrable and sadly mistaking them for a pice of same old same old crap and if you guys want to hate on my spelling then get the big pictur ...(that says enuff for its self) but no i cant belive you guys are saying these about these games im sry but all of these mmos have all been putting me to sleep be cuz there all the fing same and its stupid........ aaaahhhh you guys pissed me off about these i cant bleave you guys wouldnt point out that all the mmorpgs you see there just the same and you guys dont even disad to chaleng the media by saying there all the dam same and come out with something orignale like these guys are doing.... im done ether say something about these two games or fier your selfs for being game cridecks and all that jaz becuz you suck at your dam asumtions and your fing thouts about mmorpgs to date and im sry there just the dam same and even a noncriditc can see that these is new and it is going to exploed in to a new age for mmorpgs to date

i think your wrong on what you are saying these is the frist time some one is changeing the face of your every day borring mmos to date i mean i have played a lot of mmo rpgs and its just the same as any other and they are going above and beond and if you are saying these about blade and soul then your thinking the same thing for tera there both the new face of mmos im sry but wow is boring and the set up is just the bases and there makeing mmos to be well fun and interactive and yes wow is able to be comperd to it it blows it out of the water thats like saying that atri and xbox 360 cant be comperd im sry but wow is out dated and was good for its time but its now old so on the scale wow is atri and blade and soul is the xbox 30 and blade and soul kickes its ass to date and if you guys make a g4 daybu episoed there is alot of info out there that you can comper it to and if you think the same about tera agen these are all new mmos to change the face of mmo rpgs out there and it looks like i am the only one that has diseded to speak up for these games that you guys are bad mouthing and being old farts and hateing change

i think this game is going to be a hit in the US...The US hasnt seen the likes of a game like this and im dying to play it...the rumor is that it will be release in Close Beta in the US July 30th

How the heck would a MMORPG work on a console..? If they decide to make a console version for this that's all I need to know, I won't buy it. I won't play a watered down, casual fest. MMOs have been PC turf for a long time and it should stay that way.

While I find this looking very original, or at least not as cliched as many of the other fantasyscapes, there are things that don't quite give a great feel. The grunts come out of those dudes are more of the bathroom variety, if you ask me. And what was with the destroyer guy picking up the body by his head and smacking a home run with it? Was that necessary? Beautiful though. I want to play it. And that mangler at the end looked grumpy. I'd like to fight him.

The mouse ear furry is great. The environment are beautiful if they translate into gameplay footage, but I do have some problems with some of the shiny skin tones, and what is up with the outfits that make the girls all look like they belong in some rapper's video shaking that booty??

Oh, and correction to those who didn't pick up. It's K-MMO, not J-MMO, and yes there is a difference. When you see games coming out of Korea, as opposed to Japan, there aren't quite as many effeminate boy-men taking the lead. Men characters actually look like scruffy, burly, threatening men, not fair skinned dudes with narrow cheek bones. See Ninety Nine Nights to see my point, another made in Korea.

Oh, and it's made by Koreans. Who better to make a solid game than those who come from the land where online gaming is their largest past-time? Seriously, who else televises Starcraft tournaments (successfully and on regular channels), popularizes the champions, and has people dropping dead after an online gaming binge with no sleep and all Red Bull? That's right, Koreans. I'll trust that they know what they're doing when it comes to online gaming.

Personally, I'm diggin it. As MMO's are starting to look better and better while getting more diverse (i.e. Star Wars: Old Republic, Star Trek Online), I'm actually considering making the jump into the MMO world. Sorry, tried WoW, just didn't hook me in enough to justify the monthly fee. Will keep an eye on this one for sure...

so this game might be coming to the PS3 as well. This and FFXIV Online is going to ruin my social life. LOL

I was thinking about it and any at least decent mmo can be a success as long as they start to lower the monthly fees or make it free to play. I think people would be more willing to buy or play multiple mmos if it didn't cost them anything after the purchase of the game.

I think this game looks amazing. The fighting looks so jaw dropping. I can't see myself getting board using those moves over and over. Usually when I see a mmo for the first time i gravitate towards one class because it looks the coolest to me (usually the one that uses two handed weapons), but watching this they all look so bad ass. I mean catching a guy in mid air with what looks like a force choke and then blasting him away is so kick ass. Sad part is I need a new PC was planning on waiting till SW:TOR to get a new PC but this might get me to upgrade sooner....

I agree with Stephen. Even though i'm a jrpg fan and think this game looks and probably plays amazingly, i have trouble getting a real good \"feel\" for it. It has this \"odd\" feel to it as i watched the trailer that i cant quite put my finger on.something to do with the cute/sexy characters with hardcore looking combat that has me confused on the world this game is set in. i dont see it being a huge hit but i like to be proven wrong.
