Left 4 Dead 2

Valve is not a company to sit around twiddling their fingers. As with most games these days, Left 4 Dead 2 didn't come out of the gate "perfect," but Valve has already issued a patch for the PC version to address some issues that users have been reporting. Gamers who purchased Left 4 Dead 2 will automatically see the patch applied when Steam is booted up.

The major changes in this patch include...

  • Fixed performance problem when rendering lots of decals, notably when fighting tanks with shotguns
  • Fixed rcon response not working on Linux dedicated servers
  • Fixed matchmaking problem matching into Advanced and Expert games
  • Fix bug that would cause other specials to try to pummel a player a Charger disconnects or reconnects
  • Fixed versus mode results panel being cut off in transition stats screen in non-english
  • Found games: fixed non-player entries drawing the wrong type of icon in the selected item name label
  • Game mode selector on main menu now takes keyboard input

You act like FPS is the only gaming genre out there Crashdummy. Just thought I'd make a note of that.

I will not deny that FPS gaming has been in recent times, superior on PC. However this was due mostly to the ability to quickly maneuver your character with a mouse, rather than clumsily rotating yourself with a thumbstick, etc.

Those times have passed though, and with adjustable sensitivity and other features (RB button for L4D; 180 degree spin) in most games now, there really is no claim for PC gamers to say their experience is so much better (or more competetive. i.e.: Halo 3).

However, setting aside the battle over which platform is best, Left 4 Dead is not an entirely true FPS either. I say this only because it's not a game where it's quick-respawns on both sides, with huge amounts of gun-fire or spawn-camping, etc. Also, versus mode has one team being infected, which has no gunfire at all. So no shooting =/= first person shooter? It definitely has many characteristics of an FPS, but this game is definitely a Pseudo-FPS. And it works just as well for both console and computer. And before anyone asks, I own L4D on both platforms. So there. Haha.

In my opinion, regardless of how you play, or what you're using to play it, just have some freaking fun. And don't forget to use those effing microphones gaw-damnit!

FPS games are made for PC...whoever doesn't understand that doesn't know anything about gaming. MMO games are made for PC. For the price of a PS3 I can get 2 Vapor-X 5750's and CF them in my rig (to play BF:BC2 in all it's DX11 glory) and still have enough money left over to buy a game. And after gaming I can use Photo Shop, edit /render videos, build a website....I can do anything on my PC & game at a better res and at a higher graphics level than any console ever will. Get real console gamers--you are just a platform to sell more games to the masses, not to provide better content to gamers. Period. The end.

Wow, PC is a dying breed. Just because thats where it started doesn't mean its good. Why not live in caves? PC costs WAY too much. I hope they stop making games for the PC. You guys are so pretentious and narcissistic, and WHINY. God, I can't wait till PC gaming becomes obselete like it should have been more than a year ago.

this is just sad...we play the same so games why does it matter?! anyway, i am very happy with steam service like this. i was appalled to see on the l4d2 steam group that people were posting very profanic comments after the first 2 min of delay. they are very helpful and tend to customer problem reports and questions like they are their babies. cmon lets grow up and have more fun wih this entertainment industry!

Really? Wow I just joined G4.com and I am shocked by the sheer stupidity of people. The fact that you could actually wast your time arguing about what platform is better is so unbelievably stupid. Grow up

i laugh at all the pc players that think they are cool and smart for doing it the pc way. but im not going to spend 800 dollars plus 50 bucks per game when i can pay 200 dollars and 60 bucks a game. and im not waiting 5 hours to download one game when i can just stick the game in and play right away!!!

Oh yeah DBoy87 I forgot how cheap PC gaming is. Have fun paying an arm and a leg upgrading your system again next week. I guess being HARDCORE means having your parents pay your credit card bills.

well, I dunno about MW2 but it's not even debatable this game was made for the PC first and the 360 was sorta tossed a bone. Mod maps are pretty fun to play, can't wait til some good maps are made. Oh yeah and DLC is all free on the PC. Noticibly better graphics. etc etc. I love my 360 but it was a no brainer for me when I was left with the choice of which to get this for.. PC or 360. Hell, even the G4 staff said hands down PC version is best.
