Cheats and Walkthroughs
Welcome to Morning Hangover -- an excellent way to start your day with the crew at TheFeed...no matter what you're recovering from. Every morning you'll hear musings from our editors and have the chance to share your thoughts on what's going on in the gaming world.
I recognize MW 2 is a "better" shooter in just about any way you want to look at it (tightness of controls, level design, challenge, replayability, weapon selection, etc.) but, to me, it's just not all that much fun. The storyline is bleak to the point of existential emptiness but also sort of dumb, the barked "orders" are incomprehensible gibberish, the variety of weapons is confusing, the HUD is distracting, etc. Ultimately, the bleak nihilism and ultra-violence is just not enjoyable to play. It's nerve-wracking and stressful and striking and worthwhile as a gaming experience -- and I'm happy I beat it so I don't have to be drawn to it any more-- but it wasn't that much fun for me.
Bound in Blood, however, is a solid genre game, set in an a too-rare setting (The Old West) with a pleasantly diverting plot, some cool set pieces, and enough design innovations to keep it from seeming like a game you've played a million times, but it doesn't try to re-invent the wheel. It's like slipping on a comfortable, moderately stylish pair of shoes. It's fun to be a cowboy on a mission with your brother, as opposed to being a soldier in some near-future nightmare of constant combat.
What do you think? Am I totally off-base here? What's your most under-rated game?
