BioShock 2 Special Edition Detailed And Priced

I have never sprung for a special edition of game in my life, but that streak might come to an end when BioShock 2 hits shelves on Feb. 9, 2010. 2K has revealed details about the special edition, and it’s quite an impressive collection.

The special edition includes:

  • 13”x13” premium packaging with special slipcase and box cover art
  • Three posters featuring vintage ads from Rapture
  • A vinyl 180g LP featuring the orchestral score from the original BioShock
  • A CD contaiing the BioShock 2 orchestral score
  • A 164-page 8”x11” hardbound artbook featuring developer commentary

All of this, and a copy of the game, will run you $99.99 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version, or $89.99 for the PC version.

I’m utterly fascinated and enthralled with the BioShock universe, so any chance I can get to devour additional Rapture-y content, I’m there. Am I right, people?

WTF am I supposed to do with a vinyl LP? Who even owns a record player anymore? this is ridiculous, but i guess I can always hang it on my wall or use it for target practice.

I think the artbook and CD are definitely pretty cool. No idea what I'd do with the LP though, and someone mentioned above that the posters are either going to be too small to really do anything with or they are going to come folded which doesn't do anyone any good. So, the book and CD for an extra $40... pass. If there was a middle ground with the book and CD for like $70-75 I might bite.

Hmmm. I got the the first Bioshock collectors edition. I will probably get this one. It's strange, I don't really ever see the point of collectors editions. I think the reason why is the way I feel about the game itself. If I am not invested in the game or it's lore why would I get the collectors edition? Bioshock is a different beast. It's in my top three. So I guess it makes sense that I feel the need to get the special edition, even though I don't have a way to listen to the LP. I probably won't hang up the posters or listen to LP, and it may be a little overpriced, but it's Bioshock. For me....that's enough.

Way too pricy for what you're getting but pull a GOW 3 with free DLC day one, or a voucher for it, and you've got me interested.

I don't understand how, as video game fans, some people don't see at least the novelty of special collector's edition releases. Sure, it may not be for everyone but for those who are into it, it's friggin' neat.

Hanging up those vintage Rapture art prints in one's apartment would be totally sweet, am I wrong? Kinda brings you one step closer to that utopian underwater hell.

Also, the special edition for Batman: Arkham Asylum was pretty neat too and I feel like you're getting MORE with BioShock.

I agree with JTHMROCKS. Nothing about this game has me interested and several of my friends share that opinion.

Special Editions are such a waste of money. Here is a bunch of crap you will either lose or throw away years later. I really dont need over priced toys, art, dvds or whatever crap they are trying to sell me.

what the hell are you going to do with night vision goggles and a helmet that wouldnt fit my cat? this seems fair to me. all the music from both games? cool. posters that actually look awesome. cool. this is stuff that i can actually use.

if this is the first one you ever considered i think that your an inbred moron. This has just posters, and a CD. COD MW 2 came with a night vision head set, with a stand and an art box. Halo 3 came with a helmet. This is not as impressive IMO as others.

This is a lot of money for stuff that isn't all that fantastic... I spent the same amount of money on the Assassin's Creed 2 Collectors Edition and got pretty much the same amount of things except I got an awesome figurine that had amazing craftsmanship instead of 3 small posters and some vinyl... the vinyl does sound really awesome but not awesome enough to make me want to spend $90.

It just seems to me like the price should be dropped down to $80.

Maybe I've just been spoiled by some of the other special editions out their.

I'm a huge fan of the original game and definitely plan on picking up BioShock 2 on day one. However, this special edition seems priced a little on the high side. I'm sure the quality of what you're getting is great, but for an extra $30 I'm going to have to pass. That's just my opinion though. I'm sure it is definitely worth the cash to real diehard BioShock fans. I guess I've just been spoiled by BioWare's awesome Mass Effect 2 collector's edition that only costs $10 more than the standard game.

Wow, an actual vinyl LP? That is old-school. I can't wait to hear what my local nerd/DJs come up with when they get their hands on that.

Look at all of that beautiful art deco design. I wish the game cover art didn't stick out like a sore thumb.

    I loved Bioshock.

But I loathe the direction Bioshock 2 is going?
