Xbox Live

For those Xbox Live Silver members out there looking to get a taste of the latest Live update released earlier this week, you’ll get your chance very soon thanks to some upcoming free access weekends.

Netflix streaming, Facebook, Twitter, online multiplayer, and more will all be free of charge for all regions except Europe from 12:00 PM EST on Nov. 20 to 12:00 PM EST on Nov. 23. European regions will be given access from 17:00 GMT on Nov. 25 to 17:00 GMT Nov. 30.

Of all the Live features though, I have to say one of the biggest reasons you should check it out over the weekend is 1 vs. 100. Seriously, it's surprisingly enjoyable, and the presentation is fantastic. Just give it a shot. That's all I'm saying.

What’s keeping those Xbox Silver members out there from upgrading to Gold?

Well I say $50 a year for LIVE is nothing when you look at the nintendo Wii Online offerings (have you tried the friend code crap yet?) and sony's Online service (Cough! Cough! Modern Warfare 2 launch!!) The $50 a year just says your paying for some good quality online service! Sure PC is always free but can you afford to upgrade your video card like every few months to make sure you can run the game at a decent speed? Well if you can then you should have no objections to paying $50 a year for the service where as you pay about $150 to (maybe) $400 for a video card. Im just gonna stick with the $50 a year and be happy online

Seriously...I don't see why people are having a problem with this. It's just $50 dollars A YEAR. For people working year round to make sure everything is kept up and running, new content, etc....I wish to god there were more things in life that just cost $50 dollars a year.

And if your complaining about having to pay for Add-ons, DLC, etc...that stuff comes from the Developer, not Microsoft. Also if you want to compare just how much more changing content is on the X360 compared to the Wii and PS3 it completely shows. PS3's Network Home doesn't get near enough updates and changes (I should know, I own the stupid system)...and the Wii can't even be considered an online console. What little online is there, sucks.

hahahahahahahahahahaha losers this is why PS3 is the best system. Microsoft really thought out the whole pay for online thing. When it costs $60 to buy them game and $50 to play it online. its a waste of money. for the whole 2 games that xbox has that is worth playin online like Halo3 and Halo ODST. I am much happier with my PS3 and its free online and Blu-ray player.

I have all 3 consoles. Not much of a multiplayer person. I've always loved single player games. $50 a year isn't worth it for just Netflix streaming - about the only thing I'd use. Now I can do it on the PS3 for free and I won't even have to worry about listening to the jet engine in my living room that is the 360.

I pay my ISP for my internet, i bought the system, and i bought the god dam game i don't need to pay another dam penny to enjoy the stupid thing. That-- plus i hate playing games with a controller-- is why my 360 has collected dust in the corner and my PC is never turned off. I might even be able to over look the controller thing for a few games but i refuse to pay another dam penny for the "right" to play the dam thing online when they don't even do anything to facilitate it, as it is all P2P networking.

Maybe because high-speed broadband is not available in my area?

"What s keeping those Xbox Silver members out there from upgrading to Gold?"

Hm, i dont know... maybe they're the few xbox users who arent stupid? maybe they realized going gold isnt worth it, when basically everything you are paying for is free elsewhere (facebook, twitter, last. f.m, and online gaming)? maybe xbox silver members own a pc or ps3 which is where they: do their online gaming, as well as surf the web, and communicate with friends through social sites? maybe they dont need to go online? maybe their parents didnt find it a necessity for their kids to have a gold membership?

pc games are keeping me from going gold. And I prefer steam over xbox live gold.

Then again a few friends told me about how they just keep making new xbox live accounts online so they can keep getting free months of it.

    ok people.
Comparing xbox live to the complete lack of online "service" that sony provides isn't even like comparing apples to oranges. It's like comparing apples to space ships. I have all three consoles. I almost never play online games on the ps3 because after years of xbl's excellent service the playstion network is like using dial up in the dark stone ice age of internet gaming. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Yes xbl costs money but as has already been mentioned it works out to less than $.14 per day. So actually you get way more than you pay for. If you are any kind of serious gamer and you have an xbox you are doing yourself a huge disservice by not having a gold membership. And if you are too broke to scrape up 14 cents a day you should prolly not be buying video games anyway. And if you have some sort of moral issues about paying for the service all I can say is have fun on psn while gold members move in and out of various games while never loosing their party chat connection.
xbox live gold/ 14cents per day = SOOOO WORTH IT!

Complain all you like you cheapos. We all know why your cheap, because your broke paying for WOW or buying the blu-ray player aka POS3. After that, its simple, Playstation Network took a dump the instant MW2 launched, where as Xbox Live chugged along nicely.

You get what you PAY FOR. The only reason people complain is they are cheap and upset that their modded consoled got banned and corrupted so they couldnt continue to steal games, driving up the very costs they complain about. Heck, I just paid for 3 years myself earlier this year and gifted 2 years to each daughter. Money well spent.

I can get gold at any time. It boils down to the fact I have one 360 and my son plays it a lot more then I do. So, am I going to get 50 bucks of gaming online? The answer this year has been no. I am busy with work, family, college and playing my PC. I play my 360 like 3 times a month. I mainly play campaigns or co-op with my son.

If they let you play games online for free like they should, then how many people would pay $50 a year for cross game chat and a party system?

I believe it should be free cause we pay for add-ons and lots of other stuff. So maybe it dont have to be free but free weekends once in a while i believe would help. Probably when huge games come out like COD 2 AND Halo, games like that.

I feel a lot more people pay a crap ton of money for WoW than they do for Xbox and Live gives a lot more. 50 is fine cause that can be made in a half day of work anyways. Don't see the huge issue with paying for a service that gives so much back.

"What s keeping those Xbox Silver members out there from upgrading to Gold?"

Answer: it cost money, and I have PS3s. i can understand paying for online play if all you have is a 360, but for me who have both consoles there are not enough good 360 exclusive titles to warrant paying 8 bucks a month when with most games are multiplat and i can play online for free with the PS3. But we'll see if that changes with NATAL, i believe that could be the key to get people like me to finally start paying for gold, or it could be a wii.

That is the point Microsoft is the only provider who charges for online play. Playstation and Nintendo does not. What is so bad about it if you play the same games on the computer on there live service you don't have to pay a fee. So because 360 came out first, and because it is the popular system, we let them get away with it.
