Back in August, we noticed Japan-only PS3 game 3D Dot Game Heroes.
The game takes place in a 2D, 8-bit world, where The King decides it's time to go 3D. Something happens during the conversion process, resulting in a world that seems stuck somewhere between 8-Bit and real life. It's all a riff on the classic, pixelated 8-bit adventures you no doubt know and love.
My mind was blown by the game's idea and awesome, blocky, tilt-shift visuals, but I was doubtful that the game would come to the U.S. My pessimism was unfounded. Atlus Games today announced that it plans to bring Dot Heroes to North America.
Here's some verbiage from the press release to stimulate your excitement gland:
"The 8- and 16-bit classics many gamers cut their teeth on are magical, down to their blocky sprites and elegantly simple gameplay. 3D Dot Game Heroes captures all of that legendary charm and more, bringing classic visuals, familiar sounds, and a grand sense of exploration and discovery into stunning next-gen realization, all the while giving countless winks and nudges to the fans those iconic games mean the most to. This is pure action-adventure gaming at its finest, a true love-letter to a time-honored genre."
It's scheduled to arrive exclusively for the PlayStation 3 on May 11, 2010.
What do you think? Is this game cool, or just a little too "meta?"

Hooray, +1 to the list of games to get a when I get a PS3.

it's going to be a better zelda game than an actual zelda game. LttP was by far the best one and this game is going after that formula

I think this looks fun, no one really delivers these kinda games much.
Too many FSP's on the market these days. But anyways, i'll pre-order.

Looks like a Zelda clone. Nintendo won't give up the goods so I'll get my Zelda fix where I can. Can't wait.
