Many a gamer will be picking up Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed II today (see Andrew Pfister’s review to see if it’s worth your green), but what you might not know is that when you do buy the game, you’ll also be given access to Ubisoft’s new Uplay service.
Uplay, which will be incorporated into every Ubisoft title going forward, is essentially an in-game network that tracks your progress and achievements within Ubisoft games, and rewards you with points that can then be used to unlock free content/items. For instance, completing the training sequence and re-entering the Animus in ACII with net you 30 Uplay points. You can then use those points to pick up additional throwing knives to use in the game or to download an ACII dashboard theme. You can also use the points to access content for other supported games as well.
The service will also include exclusive media, tutorials, news, and the ability to track your friends’ achievements similar to the console-based friend-tracking services that are currently available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The Ushop will include all available downloadable content for all Uplay supported games. The whole Uplay service is still in beta at this point, so keep that in mind when/if you try it out.
Anyone signed up for/tested out Uplay yet? Have you unlocked anything of note at this point?

I have unlocked all of the points, GOD those knives helped out in the late game. I have all of the content now and with the New PoP coming and Splinter Cell around the corner I will defiantly be getting more points in the future. I hope more companies use this type of thing in the future.

I enjoy that I can do stuff in game and not just get achievements but also in-game rewards. I am thinking more game will start heading in this direction.

This sounds like a cool thing, lets see how they follow through with it.

Sounds like a cool way to integrate free DLC for dedicated players, if more companies follow suit with cool rewards consumers like us might have a good chance of getting stuff like Fable 2's Master Chief items.
New Game's with special starter item sets in RPG's, golden guns and all kinds of fun stuff.

I wonder if this is another way to encourage us to hold onto our games and not trade them in. People may be more willing to hold onto a game and keep playing it if they will benefit from the next Ubisoft title they buy. It's a clever idea, really. I certainly won't complain about games integrating with each other, especially if it means getting more rewards for spending so much time on them.

I like the idea of unlockable items, seems like it makes the acheivements good for actual stuff and that is always a good idea.

sounds like a good idea to me. they should really sell these types of game with their predecessors. such as ac1&2 or god of war 1,2 & 3 or modern warfare 1 & 2. etc. yaknwo what i mean

This is absolutely pointless. You can already check your friends trophies through friends list. Pointless, like facebook on my PS3. Game should still rock though

Seems like another step closer for OnLive which I bet will launch end of next year!!

Looks like signing up across multiple platforms (console and PC) will net you even more points. I set up my account while playing AC II on PS3, and got 10 points in addition to what I've unlocked in the game. I signed in on PC a few minutes ago, and Ubi gave me another 10 U-Play points.
What does that say about my Achivement whoring that I'd post this?

I'm starting to see an increase in gaming companies creating Social Networking sites based on their game. I first saw this with Bioware and Dragon age now it's uplay, it looks like it might be the next "big" thing to happen if it ever becomes popular that is.

Great. More unlockables to haunt my OCD.
