In 2010, Activision has launched Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero and DJ Hero, the last of which marks the company's first attempt to create an original music property since launching Guitar Hero. A still-down economy combined with annually slumping music game sales, however, means even Activision will be reducing the numbers of games it releases next year, Guitar Hero CEO Dan Rosensweig tells MCV.
“We’re working on our 2010 slate now," said Rosenweig. "You will probably see fewer SKUs from us, but the focus on making the best-selling, most fun to play, best-reviewed games will continue. Those are the things that are constant."
The launch of DJ Hero was soft. According to NPD Group sales numbers for October, DJ Hero only sold 122,000 copies in total across every platform. Despite this, Rosenweig said there will be more DJ Hero in the future. It wouldn't make much sense for Activision to give up on the franchise after so much marketing fanfare, but for invested fans, it's good news.
"[There will be] more DJ Hero," he said, "and the next iterations of Guitar [Hero] and Band [Hero] are on the way. But we will see how the market plays out. What you will see is the games will live longer and be more vibrant through DLC [downloadable content]."

Promises more DJ Hero? Sounds more like a threat to me.

I was quite interested until the last line when they said "...be more vibrant through DLC [downloadable content]."
There will be enough DLC to make another whole game!

I would like to point out that none of the games listed in this article are actually "original music property." All of them are attempts to make money off of other companies' game ideas. Guitar Hero and DJ Hero are both take-offs of Konami games (GuitarFreaks and BeatMania) and we all know where Band Hero came from.

Personally I could care less one way or the other if they put out new games or not. I will still buy GH games, but that is mainly because of the small fact that I don't have a PS3 I still only have a PS2 and it seems that Activision is they only one still releasing games for it of the two. All the Rock Band games that have come out have mainly been for PS3, 360 and WII. However ALL the Hero games that have come out came out on PS2 as well. Not everyone can afford to go out and buy a next-gen system and Activision knows this and has accommodated those of us who can't.

Fewer GH games? I don't believe it. It seems more reasonable that Activision would go to the Webster's Dictionary people and pay them to swap the meaning of the word 'fewer' with the meaning of 'more'.

how bout stop making these games so expensive so we can buy them
NinjaCrisis
They shoulda known that DJ hero was gonna fail epically.
Activision, you doing it all wrong, give us games that people actually wanna play. This should be example enough. Give us something like.. more eventful game?? cause i play guitar for real, not dissin, but i never liked to rock out on over-priced plastic guitars lol. Hit us with a multi-plat chart topper.

there they go again saying guitar hero will get more dlc yeah right about 99.9 percent of guitar hero dlc ( except guitar hero 3) is crap look at what rockband is doing they have 3 rockband games out so far and over 800 songs via dlc and they are even making dlc for rockband:the beatels but guitar hero does not have dlc for vanhalen or metallica ( and that guitar hero 3 metallica death magnetic does not count) yet guitar hero has less than that and it has 7 games and does not have nearly enough dlc and they don't even add new stuff to the music creator studio
or cloths and etc for your custom character guitar hero van halen does not even have the same thing you would see in metallica i got fooled with guitar hero 5 and guitar hero van halen is a joke
(not saying it's bad though) im done with guitar hero games im rockband only until they get a good steady stream of dlc that's even worth playing let alone paying for they come out with a new game every 6 months and they never change a thing about it that's said
and another dj hero really?
i might as well not even ask if there will be another band hero because i know it will be regardless if it sells well or not these morons are money hungry anyway

Great idea...let's completely saturate the market with Guitar Hero Titles (too late), Band Hero (really? already? this one JUST came out) and DJ Hero. What is Activi$ion thinking? And are the GH fas that devoted that they will keep buying the cranked out sequels forever? Wouldn't it be nicer of them to just put out more DLC and stop making new games every 3 months? Oh well I will stick with RB2. I hope Harmonix doesn't disappoint me now and put out RB3 in like a few months just to spite me lol

I gotta say, although Beatles has been a good distraction, I can think of a lot of things I want to see a Rock Band 3 address, and mostly in regard to managing all of the hundred-plus dollars I've spent downloading songs over the last two years.
Stuff like an option to toggle off certain songs by profile (ie: my wife HATES certain bands, and it's annoying when they show up in random playlists) would be awesome.
But that's a whole 'nother article I could write. :)

Whats the point with new music games? i'll stick with the bealtes rock band and gutiar hero 5
Boogie1188
Do we really a new DJ Hero next year? I think when it comes to these music games, we don't need a new disc every year. This is where I strongly support DLC.
MacPhisto
Hopefully with the next DJ Hero, they'll add a little more resistance in the center of that damn crossfader bar!
