Congratulations all you diehard Final Fantasy fans. You now know the exact day when all interaction with friends and family will cease, as Square Enix today announced that its highly anticipated role-playing game Final Fantasy XIII will be released in North America and Europe on March 9, 2010, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
“We know that our fans have been eagerly awaiting the next installation of the franchise -- Final Fantasy XIII will exceed all expectations. Coming simultaneously to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for the first time, Final Fantasy XIII will be available to all players who are looking for the most immersive gaming experience of 2010," Square Enix president and chief executive officer John Yamamoto said in a statement.
Perhaps the even bigger news here though is that Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Leona Lewis will provide the theme song for the game, entitled “My Hands,” which is also featured on her upcoming second album, Echo. RCA Music Group executive vice president and general manager Tom Corson said of the partnership, “Leona is a natural fit with the game’s powerful themes and strong female protagonist. We’re delighted to be part of this effort, bringing great musical artistry to Final Fantasy XIII which is a riveting and dynamic gaming experience."

My iPhone will go silent for that whole week of the 9th of March, holy crap this is amazing news. Now to go down to Gamestop and make my reservation for any collector's edition that will be made available.

As for Leona Lewis singing the theme song I would prefer the music be the from the Japanese version unless they are the same. I now wonder if ff13 will have a good collectors edition.

Great to see they FINALLY announced the release date! The Leona Lewis song? meh... sounds a bit too generic for a FF game. They really should have done the announcement video without the douchey Chris-Martin-lookalike guy. Oh and I also noticed they "conveniently" left FFX-2 out of that Wall of FF shot. lol

I listened to this song on youtube and I think it can work for this game if we just give it a chance. Although I would prefer if Angela Aki would do the theme song since she did "Kiss me Goodbye" from FF12 and a really good cover of "Eyes on Me" from FF8

Just when you think our PS3's and 360's will finally be happy. *at the square enix studio* "whoops, the computer froze again, and i didn't get to save the complete version of final fantasy 13. tell them it's gonna be out on oct 7th 2011" jk jk. but i'mma pre-order on PS3 lol.

I will be as far away from this game as possible. Now that they took the real time action out of it and put back the "got old 25 years ago" turn based fighting, I am going nowhere near it.
If only they kept it like the last one, along the lines of Crisis Core, I would have loved this game. I am too tired of Turn Based and I am officially turning my back on it.

I am siked to play this, but god I hope you can rename the characters!! Lightning? Hope? Snow? Those have to be the most uninspiring names EVER!
Other than that, it sounds great. Although I'd like to see Chocobos returned to the glory of their PS1 days, when you could raise and train em.

This is so awesome! What would be cool is if there was a split screen/ online co-op option on this one. This new style of gameplay should allow it. But still great without it.

ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!!! the only reason I ever purchased a PS3 was for this game. That of course was before all these other awesome games came out but that game is as important to me as food, shelter, and clothing. Taking this long to come out this better end up getting a 6 out of 5 from the reviews therefor creating a new rating system and better be well worth the wait.
