Xbox Live took a beating on Tuesday. One might surmise a major multiplayer game was released on Tuesday and people wanted to play it. Oh, right. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. As it turns out, the launch of Activision and Infinity Ward's shooter sent so many people online that it resulted in the biggest day ever for Xbox Live yet, with more than two million gamers playing simultaneously.
"Tuesday was the biggest day we've ever seen on Live," said Dennis Durkin, COO of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business during a financial presentation the BMO Capital Markets "Digital Entertainment Conference" in New York this afternoon.
In the run up to Modern Warfare 2's launch, Microsoft prepared for an onslaught of active users.
"[It's a] landmark event for our industry," said Durkin.

I couldn't put my 360 controller down tuesday because mw2 multiplayer is fun, without me trying to be a 360 fanboy, live is worth every penny and how could sony not be ready for tuesday

YES. PS3 DOES have online free. to bad mw2 had multiplayer issues on that system

That's some impressive numbers!!! Even with top games like GOW 2 and Halo 3 released in he past 2 years this is awesome to think the servers handled the load. Without pointing fingers and trying to flame, but this is honestly why Xbox Live is worth every penny to me. Sure PSN is free and that's great for the casual gamer but for people like myself 50 bucks (30 at amazon for people who know how to shop!!) Live is worth every penny.

@ProjektX13, Um PS3 is doing just fine, i guess your one of the idiots who looks at sales numbers of the 360 and says HA the 360 has sold more than the PS3 without taking in account of all the people who has bought multiple 360s due to failures in the system. I guarentee Sony has sold more systems than the 360 on just one buy sales.
