Since everyone is talking about or playing or buying extra copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 right now, Adam couldn't let this week's Soapbox go by without talking about the controversial "Airport Scene" we've all been hearing so much about.

While this video is fairly light on spoilers, if you haven't finished the single-player campaign in the game, you might want to wait before you hear what the Sess has to say on the subject. That being said, how did playing through that scene make you feel? Or did you skip the level, expecting it to be gratuitous and offensive? Let us know what you think, but again, please keep the discussion intelligent and civil.

Update: Adam did not go on Fox and Friends. It was his decision, and it was due to scheduling.

WELL PLAYED. I haven't played the game yet, nor seen the footage, but from how you explained it, it makes sense. You're probably going to make someone cry by calling games art though :P

    :)

It was a good scene that did its job.

I would have to agree with you on this point, for instance a while back any media that was animated was deemed for kids. Then the Simpsons came out and there was a big controversy over how Bart behaved and so on. But if you look back now the Simpsons is very tame compared to other shows. So I think infinity ward is helping to push games outside of the kid zone.

I have played through the campaign and I also opted into playing through that section and did pull the trigger just to see how it would effect me. What it did accomplish was that stomach pit feeling, though I have to say there are many games already out there that are much worse in terms of violence, Such as GTA4 which didn't generate much controversy probably because its an old hat to the media.

I don't think this type of thing is as new or shocking as people make it out to be. You can visit strip clubs in GTA, choose between money and saving lives in fable 2, and even choose to blow up a safe haven in fallout 3. These types of disicions are by no means new, the only difference here is that they ask you to pick up a gun and do the dirty work yourself. As others have said: if you object to the content of a game then don't buy it. There's no need to hate these companies for making these games; if I don't like a game I don't play it; I don't choose to lead a self-righteous crusade to cast down the supposed heathans who made it. You can go ahead and get into a futile debate over whether this is right or wrong but people will continue to support it so why waste the time?

I understand your feelings Adam. I personally didn't shoot any civis, (Just shot the windows in the ceiling. I did end up having to shoot the riot officers though.) That scene is what gives the whole games story importance and without it your gutting from what it was meant to be.

While not a huge fan of these games, I certainly understand a more mature oriented story and I'm going to be very sad when you go on Fox and they more than likely pull questions that are not only immature, but down right redundant.

Epic fail and eternal thumbs down on PSfortheWin on this and all future threads.
First for the screen name that obviously came from a fanboy addled brain (take away 2 intelligence just for having the mindset).
Secondly for posting more than 3 posts, all saying basically the same thing over and over. What were they saying you might ask? Oh you know, something along the lines of "I need attention, so I'm going to nag on and on and on about the "F" word Soapbox until someone finally gives me the attention I feel I deserve, and my parents somehow just never gave".
Really dude, you need to get a life, or go buy a Harley or something. Maybe you'll get the attention and stares you're starving for then. Ha, you're like Butters...

BTW i saw the part and i even thought it was just you walk through. Just so happens the guy playing shot first LOL it wasnt bad. I mean ive seen and done first. I ate someone in Fallout 3 for crying out loud!!!!! In GTA my friend went on a jew spree. Everytime he saw a jewish guy he shot him. hes crazy but like i said come on it needs to stop. Its a game but everyone wants to point the finger at entertainment for school shootings and any attacks. It gives a bad name for the gaming community.

Fox news should really lay off violent video games! The Pen and Teller show proved that there is no link
between people becoming violent while playing violent video games!

Like I said again ,people become violent by real live violent situations, not by video games!
They proved that violent video games are an outlet for stress and proves eye and hand imoprovment!

The only problem I have about this game is that we're not massacring Islamo-Fascist!

Is there any way to either fix the video player on the site, or update your podcasts faster? I can't view anything on this site and I rely on getting the podcast, which posts just in time to be outdated and nearly irrelevant.

Either solution would be greatly appreciated.

I know that South Park isn't a textbook, it's the creators opinion... just like you have your opinion. I do have to say though that the majority of people agree more with South Park's view then yours... just sayin'

I played through this mission and I had known what was to come. I wasnt offended but it was very effective at conveying that this man is incredibly evil, vile, and insenseitive. I dont believe IW ment to offend anyone seeing as they included the option to skip it. Due to the ability to skip this part of the game there rly should be no debate on the subject. If you think you may be offend DONT PLAY THAT SECTION OF THE GAME. Before you can even begin the campaign it tells you there are disturbing parts. In my opinion it in no ways diminishes the rest of the experience.

when i first saw the video i was like there is no way in hell im going to shoot anybody unarmed in this game. but then i got to the level and went guns blazing does that make me a bad person no. i also remembered i contantly mow down inocent people in gta4. people like fox who know nothing about games need to sit back and chill its not real and they need to realize that. this reminds me of when the mass effect sex scene controversy came out.
