As many of you PlayStation 3 owners are likely aware, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 saw its multiplayer mode crippled last night, right around the time a patch was released to fix an issue with trophies not unlocking properly. While it was first assumed that the patch had somehow caused multiplayer to tank, Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling revealed via Twitter that the patch had nothing to do with the outage.
"Xbox Live servers are maintained and ran by Microsoft. PSN servers are ran and maintained by 3rd party companies hired to do so," Bowling explained. He went on to say, "MP doesn't require a patch. It's a server overload not a bug in the code. They're working to have servers back up ASAP."
A few hours ago, Bowling announced that a second patch had been released, which means trophy unlocks should now be working properly in single-player and multiplayer. Bowling also said that IW is adding more servers to keep up with multiplayer demand, and that a number of those servers are starting to come online as we speak. There still might be issues for some people, but it looks like things should be up and running again smoothly soon.

If it was just an outage based on server overload, I think that many people would understand it. Heck, most PS3 owners were gloating a few months ago over BF:1943 when 360 was having problems. But it isn't just the multi-player. I missed some trophies before the patch went out, and it really sucked to have to go back. Play through the Rio slums on Veteran and you'll know what I mean. I still can't sync ANY trophies at the moment.
IW knew this was going to be huge, but apparently chose not to make the resources available. Add that to all the pre-release hype, and what did we see? XBox everywhere. All the trailers were 360, 360, 360. Never a mention of PS3 or PC versions. So when the game comes out and has these types of problems while 360 has little to none, you can understand how a PS3 player feels neglected.
I was never going to play much of the multi-player, with the exception of spec-ops. Too many single and multi-player games that have either come out or soon will for me to devote the time it would take to get competitive. I'd rather be playing Bad Company 2, Uncharted, MAG, or you name it. I still haven't finished Batman for dualshocks sake. It just shows a critical grouping of either mis-steps or underestimating that all gamers felt wouldn't happen. Not with this game, or this developer. I guess we were wrong.

i own both systems and they are great, but i buy all my online multiplayer games for my 360.because the online is just better.PS3 online is good to plus free.But im okay with paying for a service that is more user friendly and better quality.
Both systems are great and the real losers are the people with one system.

Normally im a real nice guy but i have to say this. To hell with all of you fanboys. for saying that PSN is Poo, or crap, or anything there of. Seriously, im sick of PS3 being bashed all the freakin time. THe PS3 has an excellent free online service. Its secure and efficient. ive had tons of hrs on COD 4, COD WaW, and Klllzone 2 Multiplayer so STFU! Sure, the 360 has a better structure and more reliablilty but Stop saying this thing sucks. If it was really that bad, then Killzone 2 wouldve been a complete train wreck along with many other titles and the PS3 wouldve died a while ago. And arent you 360 fanboys forgetting that most of YOUR titles, like Gears, had server issues and had to be patched up!?! Im really sick on going on blog sites and finding d-bags like PS3fears360 still here on his troll crusade against anything SONY. Just freakin stop and respect the damn system. First, its only on certain PS3's. Next, the 360 version is getting patched too so to all of you fanboys, quit gloating. THen, BLAME ACTIVISION CEO!!! HE's the guy who doubted support of SONY and probably clouded all his titles into become 360 Zombies and not supporting titles on the PS3 as equally as 360! But in any case, hopefully, Infinity Ward will see that the PS3 is also another competitive multiplayer community that is smaller but just like 360 and support it equally. THe problem, like any other problem, will be fixed up and itll run like normal again. But if theres ANYTHING id like to see happen in 2010, its 360 Fanboys like PS3fears360, become non-existant in gaming.

I feel bad for the xbots here, it must of sucked to be the only people in the world without a PS2 and thus their blind hatred of Sony was started at a young age.

I seem to recall many articles where IW explained that the reason there are no options for anything in the game is because they are incapable of making mistakes and should thus govern servers and darn near every thing else that is a configurable option in the game. That means if the game failed to function on the PS3, regardless of the PSN infrastructure its still IW's fault for not taking in to account how PSN works. In addition on PSN the developer or publisher furnishes the servers. So either way you look at it its IW dropping the ball not Sony or any fault of how the PS3 operates.
Funny thing. I haven't and I won't buy the game and I'm having no problems with any of my gaming right now. Back to Borderlands.

My multiplayer was only down for a couple of hours, not really a big deal.
"this is why we pay for xbox live" as if there have never been problems with xbl. Except for the massive hardware failure rate, and millions of xbox's crashing.
It seems to me the game sold alot better on the ps3 then they were ready for, and fixed the problem quickly so I don't thiink this is a strike against psn.

Good thing MS got the online servers right. If only MS could fix the shoddy hardware that runs the game!!!! I love how the X-lemmings make fun of an online server issue (due to large numbers of players) with the PS3, but find it perfectly alright to buy and return multiple 360's because the hardware fails so frequently. Last time I checked, if the online component went down on the PS3 version I'd still be able to play the campaign. When I get the RRoD on the 360, however, I can't play any games for a couple of weeks.

Never had a problem with LIVE. LOL Live never went down for no reason. If it went down it was for maintenance. PSN is too crap to even be kept running. Even when its free theres barley any one on.

Oh my God, I don't even understand how this has turned into a debate about which is better between the 360 and PS3. They obviously both have something that made people go out there and buy them. It's not like telling me PS3 sucks and bashing the PS3 will make me go out and buy an xbox. I have a ton of friends who love the xbox and so be it. Anyway is this issue fixed already? Cause I am keen to game.
